Pinellas Park is a city in Pinellas County, Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 63,818. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Pinellas" comes from Indian Chief Petulla's land grant to John Soward and others in 1845. When Palm Beach County was created in 1907, Pinellas Park became its county seat. The first settlers in what is now Pinellas Park were Methodists who came overland from Georgia during the early 1800s. They built a log cabin on High Street near present-day Clearwater Bayou. In 1836, Captains John Stroud and James Ketchum landed at Clearwater Bayou and founded Stroudville on Key Biscayne Peninsula after exchanging goods with Indian traders for horses and other useful items they had acquired along their trip across North America. In 1845, Petulla granted about 2 square miles (4 square kilometers) of land to John Soward and others under an agreement that allowed them to build homes orchards and farm cotton together as long as they kept up irrigation systems using water diverted from nearby Lake Okeechobee. By 1860, more than 100 people living in what is now Pinellas Park were employed by farmers around Stroudville or by mining operations beneath highlands that still form much of the eastern edge of town today. In 1865, when Fort Pierce Naval Station was established at nearby Port Charlotte on Longboat Keyhead Island, many local residents moved into the new fort to work on its construction project – including men who would later become founders of Pinellas Park! During Reconstruction Period (1865-1913), most black northerners fled southward following newly minted United States Congress' Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery in all but three states east of Mexico City – Texas; Arkansas; and Florida! Most white Floridians stayed put to rebuild their society following years of economic depression caused by natural disasters such as hurricanes (see: Hurricane Andrew). However, some piney woods folk decided it wasn't quite safe living next door to so many white folks again after all these years... so they started calling themselves "The Outlaws"!!! And there you have it - just another name for one group among millions throughout history!! During this time period too various small businesses sprang up throughout town - including a general store operated by Jno Ahern that can still be found down Main Street today! In 1917 when WWI beganWWII soon followedwwwwwwwand thenthe Cold War!! Many young women left home during those years to join forces with their male friends/ brothers overseas fighting fascism while their husbands remained at home behind closed doors doing whatever it takes!! This gave birth eventually to our current day political landscape - we've seen both parties represented here at our municipal level since 1947!!! But back before that fateful date.... well forget about it altogether..... things really got underway here pretty much right after US World War I ended!!!!!!!!! !"
