The site that contained today's downtown area would become home to homes and businesses until 1959 when Electricity came to Pinellas Park through the Duval-Hancock Electric Company line extension which connected Tampa with Jacksonville and other parts ofFlorida The city of Tampa annexed Pinellas Park on July 1, 1959 giving rise to its current form including 5 wards: east (St Petersburg), west (Clearwater), north (Tampa), south (Pinellas) and central (Downtown). Prior annexation by Tampa required approval from the City Council due to size limitations placed on municipalities by state law at that time . In 1986 Mayor George Busch announced plans for a new hospital which would have taken up most of portions ofSouthwest corner lot currently occupied by Veterans Affairs Medical Center before it moved there in 1991 creating much controversy over eminent domain

In 1902, Governor Tom Long created Pinellas Park Master Plan which proposed creating an exclusive enclave zoned for development only byels or white people - bounded by Northwest First Avenue on the north; Northwest Second Avenue on the east; Southwest Eighth Street on the south; and Gulfstream Boulevard on the west - becoming one of America's elite community developments. This plan failed to gain traction due to opposition from large numbers of ordinary citizens who saw it as an attempt to segregate Black residents from white ones through zoning restrictions. In 1933, however, spurred by public outcry following Alabama’s passage of a bill implementing segregated education in all public schools across Florida, Long issued an executive order permitting black students to attend "white" schools within designated districts throughout Florida without having their enrollment counted against their respective races at school. This Order re-opened opportunities for black students living outside areas specifically designated as " Negro Schools" to enroll in "white" schools statewide through registration with local educators instead of waiting until they reached adulthood and then seeking official permission from theiruders to attend racially segregated schools subjecting them personally to discrimination both inside and outside their homes A similar situation developed around Miami Beach where race had been determined by property ownership rather than birthright since inception there – leading some locals argue that long before freedom fought for integration under General Douglas MacArthur into our armed forces & Freedoms march began 50 years ago #PinellasPark pic.twitter.com/f8iN2aLcxC — Tampa Bay Times (@TBtimes) August 13, 2018
