On October 1st, 1953, a company of Florida National Guardsmen arrived in Pinellas Park from Fort Pierce Municipal Airport to assume their new assignment of protecting Highway 95 between Sanford and Clearwater Beach. Since then, troops have been mobilized on numerous occasions throughout different events throughout our history including hurricanes Irma and Maria; natural disasters like floods or fires; and even ceremonial occasions like New Year's Eve or Christmas Day (although not all troop deployments are publicized). Currently there are over 350 soldiers stationed at various points around town providing 24/7 security for residents and businesses alike!

Pinellas Park was founded on November 1, 1892 by Judge John A. Daly and his wife Anna Loye Daly as a small town in what is now Pinellas County. The city was named for Anna's father-in-law, Dr. James Bogue Pinellas (). In 1906, the first post office in Pinellas Park opened and served the community until it closed in 1926 due to financial problems. In 1935, Beecham plc., also known as British American Tobacco Company (), merged with US Steel Corporation () to form DuPont de Nemours & Co., which later became Dow Chemicals Corporation (). Two years later, US Steel Corporation () merged withGeneral Motors Corporation (); both companies had bought out their respective stockholders (). On July 14 of that year (1936),DuPont de Nemours & Co., Incorporated () became General Electric Company (). At that time, GE included all of the assets and subsidiaries of three other corporations: Bethlehem Steel Company (), American Can Manufacturing Company () and ConAgra Foods Incorporated (); these companies were then organized into four divisions: Business Units I through IV (formerly called Divisional Office Functions) within GE Corporate Services; Markets Research; Developmental Programs; while Administration and Planning continued to be divided between Bethlehem Steel Company (), American Can ManufacturingCompany (), ConAgra FoodsInc.: division until its merger with DuPont de Nemours & Co., Incorporated() on January 1st , 1968. From this point forward Headquarters for GE Corporate Services were located at 4500 Raymond Boulevard in downtown St Petersburg while Marketing was headquartered at 5000F Mina Road in Lakeland until 1984 when it moved to 10000 Enterprise Drive NE #2 after DuPont de Nemours &Co.'s purchase of Monsanto corporation . Finally Administration and Planning functions were split again between Bethlehem Steel Company (), American Can ManufacturingCompany (), ConAgra FoodsInc.: division until its merger with DuPont de Nemours &Co:, Incorporated() on January 1st , 1968 which created four new divisions: Sales and Marketing; Technology Development& Applications; Plants/Products . The Soldiers and Sailors Act of 1903 authorized the creation of a National Guard Reserve, which was activated on July 1, 1917. On September 14, 1933, the National Guard Bureau was created within the Department of Defense to organize and control all National Guards forces under military command. On November 15, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Public Law 85-148 which designated all members of certain classes as members of the National Guard for one year without pay. This gave these individuals permission to serve in any capacity in an emergency or wartime zone without having their service terminated by government officials. Today, there are more than 26 million military personnel in the National Guard system across America!

Pinellas Park, Florida was founded in 1890 by Captain John L. Kirkpatrick and his wife Anna Maria. The first town in Pinellas County was named Kirkpatrick, but it quickly became known as Pinellas Park because of the many pine trees that were grown there. The first post office in the park was established in 1892. In 1904, a golf course was added to the park and it has been used for professional and amateur tournaments ever since. In 1926, the county acquired land south of Clearwater Beach and formed Pinellas County Park which includes most of today's Pinellas Park. In 1953, a new baseball stadium called Gulfport Stadium was built on part of the original Clearwater Beach land which is now home to Tampa Bay Rays baseball games. It has been host to several other events including concerts and world championships over the years. Today, Pinellas Park is an important community with a rich history that makes it one of America's top tourist destinations. It offers residents plenty of recreational activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, biking/walking/running etc., as well as educational opportunities such as museums and historical sites like Gulfport Stadium which are open to the public free of charge.
The first Europeans to visit Pinellas Park were the Spanish in 1513. The area that is now Pinellas Park was part of the Pensacola Indian Plantation, which was owned by Captain Francisco de la Vega. In 1779, after a three-year siege by British forces, the Indians were forced to give up their land in what is now Pinellas Park. The Treaty of Paris ceded Florida to the United States in 1823. Pinellas Park was named for General James Kenedy (1775-1819), who fought in the War of 1812 and helped take Fort Moultrie from the British. Kenedy's wife, Mary Boynton (1780-1850), donated land for a public park in 1827. The first parkland was dedicated on July 4, 1830. In 1865, Congress created Lake County and annexed most of Seminole County including Pinellas Park into Lake County. In 1903, pine trees began to be planted at what is now Veterans Memorial Stadium on Clearwater Beach Boulevard near Gulfport Avenue and those trees would remain there until they were removed during Hurricane Wilma in 2005 because they interfered with plans for rebuilding stadium after that storm caused extensive damage to it. On December 13, 2006, Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced that he would not seek re-election due to health concerns; his successor chose Buddy Dyer as mayor effective January 1, 2007 On occasions where city council meetings are held outside of City Hall during business hours or when City Hall is closed due to weather conditions such as inclement weather or a state Of Emergency declared by Governor Rick Scott then all council meetings will be held inside City Hall from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., except when Councilmembers may recess early pursuant to State law . All other special meetings must be scheduled through City Manager’s office before 5 p.m., unless advertised otherwise
