The navy gave Pinellas Park its start in 1927 when Rear Admiral John F. Kennedy, then commanding officer of the USS Enterprise (CV-6), donated a small fleet of naval vessels to the city as a gift. The navy has donated more than seventy-five ships and submarines to Pinellas Park over the years, including two from World War II. In 1919, Commodore George Dewey dedicated USS Maine (BB-4) to be used in training future naval officers and sailors. Pinellas Park is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 25,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area and lies in the center of the county. Pinellas Park was established as a town on October 20, 1892 by commissioners from St. Petersburg and Clearwater. It was incorporated as a city on January 14, 1959. The first settler in Pinellas Park was Abel J. Casey who arrived there with his family on July 1, 1892. Casey built a cabin near what is now Gulf Boulevard and Gulf Street. The first school in Pinellas Park was opened in 1894 by Mrs. Anna Sievers to teach children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old about reading and writing using Pauly's Grammar Book which had just been published that year by Julius Nylander & Co.. In 1896, John Waddell founded Lumberyard Bros., Fruitgrowers Supply Company #2A & 2B along Gulf Boulevard from what is now Bayfront Drive to Cypress Avenue near present-day Hallandale Beach Blvd.. In 1898 Gussie Pritchard opened her store at 424 N Dixie Highway opposite Hallandale Beach Blvd.. A post office called "Pinellan" was established at this location on December 3rd, 1898 under the name of Stonington ( Connecticut). In 1905 John Waddell sold his share of Lumberyard Bros., Fruitgrowers Supply Company #2A & 2B to Harry Fenton who continued to operate it until 1912 when he sold it again to James Hargrave who operated it until 1916 when he sold it once again to Elisha Cooks who continue operating it until 1922 when they merged with Cooks Brothers company which also owned another grocery store at 5805 Bayfront Drive known as Cooks Supermarket before being closed down in 1984 by then Mayor Tom Bartlett after pressure from business interests led him to close all public schools in the city except for one high school which became Bartlett Middle School after he took office in 1985 following his victory over incumbent mayor Eddie Byrne In 1923 Harry Fenton bought out James Hargrave’s interest for $1 million dollars making him President and CEO of Cooks Brothers grocery store chain which includedpinellasparkgrocerystore locatedat5805bayfrontdriveknownontothecathedral Perot Center Shopping Mall later renamed simplyPerotCenter . From 1923 through 1936 Harry Fenton served as Chairman and CEO of American brothers company Trustees Corporation where he managed day-to-day operations while his brother Sam ran the manufacturing side including most notably their famous “PineLLAS PARK BOYS” brand cigarettes ..
