The history of the Plant City Air Force Base began in World War II with the activation of the base on October 1, 1942. The air force was activated on September 30, 1941 and was made up of two wings: the 310th Bombardment Wing and the 313rd Fighter Squadron. The first aircraft were Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. In 1945, the air force re-activated as a fighter arm, becoming known as the Florida Air National Guard District 8. The wing became known as One Hundred Seventh Fighter Wing (1/7 FW), flying F-84G Thunderjets until they were retired in 1991. From 1951 to 1991, One Hundred Eighth Fighter Wing (1/88 FW) flew F-102A Delta Dagger jet fighters for international engagements such as Operation Desert Storm. In 1992, Plant City AFB was reassigned from Florida Air National Guard District 8 to United States Air Forces Central Command (USAF CENTCOM). As part of this assignment, it became one of three USAF bases located in Southeast Florida along with MacDill AFB and Jacksonville AFB. On November 12th 1994, One hundred ninth fighter wing replaced 1/87 FW at Plant City AFB effective November 14th 1994; concurrently with its move from MacDill AFB to Centcom HQ there also was an expansion of Tedder Hall which had been used by both wings since their activation days at Plant City Aerodrome just east of town on Hillsborough River Boulevard (formerly US 97). On May 15th 2002 a new hangar and associated facilities were dedicated at Centcom HQs plant city airport annexing 210 acres previously leased by Lockheed Martin Missile Systems Division for missile production during Project MercuryphaseII development beginning in early 1980s when CenturyLink Field hostedDouglas Aircraft Corporation CF-18 Hornets production testing following design certification program completion concurrent with FAA approval for extended range nuclear strike capabilityZeus Lake Test Range Ultralight aircraft operations commenced coincident with start Intelsat I satellite launch services available from Orlando's Space Center Complex through Eagle Point Satellite Launch Facility One hundred thirty five years after activating at Plant City Aerodrome, the predecessor units to today’s 231st Airlift Wing have come and gone leaving behind a legacy that is still being enjoyed by locals and servicemen today!

Plant City is a city in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hillsborough County and it is included in the Tampa–St Petersburg metropolitan area. Plant City began as a small settlement on the banks of St. Johns River in 1835 and became a town in 1856 when it incorporated as a municipality. In 1907, Plant City became an independent city and remains so today. The first settlers to Plant City were farmers who arrived from New England during the era of slavery. In 1835, they built their first home on what is now Government Street near where present-day Third Avenue meets US 27. By 1856, they had erected 10 other homes and had become a community of around 100 people with goods delivered by boat to their residents throughout the year. In 1907, Plant City became an independent city under its own government after annexation by Hillsborough County from neighboring Pinellas County. At that time, it had a population of 553 people and was located along what is now Third Avenue between Business Street and Old Stonington Road (now Veterans Boulevard). The annexation made Plant City one of only two cities within Hillsborough County - the other being Tampa - that did not previously have municipal boundaries or have any type of annexation process; the other being Dania Beach which merged with Hillsborough County in 1959. At its peak in 1920, PlantCity had an estimated population of 2,500 people; however this figure decreased rapidly due to World War I-era decline in trade and industry across Tampa Bay region; as well as increasing taxes levied against citizens for services like public transportation which helped fund highway construction projects throughout central Florida during that time period) . Despite this decline though, there was still some growth potential remaining until 1925 when Census data indicates that plantcity's population had dropped below 1,000 residents for only second time since becoming an Independent Municipal Corporation (IMC). Additionally although post WWIdecline led to fewer jobs available for citizens during those years downtowns suffered too with many storefronts vacant or converted into housing developments such as Lakeshore Towers development east/ south side just south of Old Stonington Road also known then as "Downtown". However despite these negative experiences downtown nevertheless experienced moderate levels if development over next few decades until late 1960s when all downtown redevelopment halted completely resulting in abandonment much like many other older downtown areas across Central Florid

The USAF provides deterrence by performing nuclear strikes on enemy targets, conducting aerial refueling operations, and navigation and airstrikes against terrorist targets. Plant City was founded in 1892 by J.B. Beasley and his wife, Marilla. The town was named for the city of Plantagenet, England, which Beasley had visited while on a business trip to that country. The town's first store was built at the corner of State Road 6 and Elm Street. The population of Plant City grew rapidly during the early years, with many businesses opening up and people moving into the area. In 1902, Plant City became a city and added its own government to help manage its affairs. In 1916, the plantation where Plant City's first store was located became part of the United States Army Corps of Engineers' Tampa River Project and became known as PlantCity Arsenal (later renamed Fort Brooke). After World War II ended, most of the army's military housing were moved out of Tampa and instead land was purchased in Plant City for civilian use. This included what is now known as Park Place Drive. The late 1940s through early 1960s saw an influx of Korean War veterans into Florida who decided to call themselves "Korean Americans." Many small businessesoyed by their presence opened up around this time including several restaurants/cafés called "The Koreatown" that caters specifically to Koreans living in or near Plant City. During this time period there also developed a nascent Korean community in Plant City – primarily consisting of young families who had immigrated here after being forced out of their homes in South Korea during the war years; however they continued to call themselves "Koreans" despite living among non-Koreans until well into the 1990s when they finally lost all traces of their Korean heritage altogether Today Plant City remains one Of Florida's fastest growing municipalities with over 54% growth since 2000
