Her husband, Wally, opened the business with his own money. Mr. Oberholtzer was a German immigrant who started his coffee business in order to provide quality European-style coffee to the locals in Plant City. The shop continued to be run by Mrs. Oberholtzer and her son, Chuck, until 1985 when they passed away due to health concerns. In 1987, their son-in-law and successor at Gourmet Coffee, Rick Crouse purchased the business from Mrs. Oberholtzer's widowChuck Oberholtz Jr., making it an official familyowned and operated establishment. In 1938 another landmark cafeopened up in town - JB's Place which Became popular for its excellent food items such as chicken fried steak etcetera However it should be noted that JB's Place closed down sometime prior to 1945... perhaps because of World War II?! Anyway... by 1944 there were only three remaining cafes left in town – The Java Hut (later renamed Dutch Bros), Billy Bob's Cafeteria (now defunct) And Johnny Rockets Café (now defunct).
