The Air Force Gift History Museum in Plantation, Florida preserves and celebrates the history of air force gifts to the community. The museum is located on grounds that once belonged to Fort Myers Army Base, which was one of the largest military bases in the United States during World War II. The fort was closed during the war and its land became a site for air force training exercises. Today, part ofFort Myers Army Base is home to The National Military Museum, which houses artifacts from throughout American history. One of the first large military gifts given by the Air Force to Plantation was an airplane hangar and hangars designed by General Electric Company president Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. These were built in 1942 at Fort Myers Army Base as part of Project Mockingbird, which aimed to improve flying opportunities for American pilots. After World War II ended, these Hangar 1 and 2 were sold tovarious local businesses in Plantation for use as their own airport terminals. In 1949, they were donated by Captain Edward Kestenbaum (1911-2003) of Naval Aviation Center Jacksonville along with his then-wife Drusilla Kestenbaum (1914-2007). In 1957, when Plantation's first city government was formed, Mayor Loyd Wright contributed five planes from his personal collection to be used as aviation backup for City Council meetings. From then until 1978, City Manager Harry Sayers donated two C-124 Globemasters each year to helpwith Airport Maintenance purposes; this continued until 1984 when he donated all four planes (and associated equipment) due to budgetary limitations within the city government caused by other priorities within Municipal Services Deptartment The last gift from Mayor Wright came in 1978 when he gifted two Beechcraft Baron aircraft - both being painted black with silver lettering reading "Plantation Municipal Airport". This aircraft served as our main Airlift Service Provider until 1993 when we received our only Boeing 727 - nicknamed “The Lady” due its striking lines and color scheme commensurate with our growing stature within Municipal Services Deptartment

The air force gift history in Plantation, Florida dates back to the early days of the Air Force. On July 1, 1947, the first bomber squadron was established at Eglin Field in Tampa, Florida. The unit was called the 388th Bombardment Wing and its mission was to bomb Japanese targets in Southeast Asia. From its humble beginnings as a bomber squadron, the 388th has grown and changed over time. In 1951, it became an F-86 Thunderchief squadron and flew aggressor aircraft during Operation Overlord. After that campaign, it transitioned to the F-117A Stealth Fighter Program and flew these highly advanced jets until it disbanded on September 15th 2006. Today, there is still a legacy of heroism and service associated with the 388th Bombardment Wing - even though its bombers no longer fly above our Skies!
Plantation is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville metropolitan area. The first plantations were set up by the British in 1763 and became known as the "Florida East India Company's" (FEIC) plantations. In 1821, sugarcane was introduced to America from Cuba and began to be grown in Florida; this led to an increase of sugar production on these plantations which also obligated plantation owners to maintain large gardens with slaves working in them for food and labor. In 1845, John Capps purchased land east of Gainesville and began construction on what would become Plantation House. The house has been home to many leaders in American history including President James K. Polk and his wife Sarah Polk. Today, Plantation House functions as the town hall and museum for Plantation Village, a community located adjacent to the plantation complex. The importance of slavery in early Florida cannot be overemphasized; without slaves there would have been no need for plantations or crops that supplied goods desired by slaveowners throughout North America such as cotton. Slavery allowed Africans who had worked their way through Africa into service within white society—a process called apprenticeship—to gain access not just to wealth but also opportunities education, housing, health care, social advancement and ultimately freedom after they had served their time or died young at age 25 years or less under African customarily prescribed sentence: death by burning alive due to a contagious disease called fever blanche (named after an ancestor who contracted it). This type of servitude freed many Africans over time but resulted in horrific crimes against humanity committed by those enslaved; one example being Appomattox Court massacre took place when Confederate General Robert Ewell surrounded Fort Sumter during the Siege of Petersburg on April 9th 1865 following Union defeat at Gettysburg three days earlier which ended bloody battle overall with over 400 fatalities among Confederate forces including approximately 150 officers/ enlisted men killed including 50% command structure with Ewell taking complete control over defense operation leading directly to surrender

Plantation was a term used to describe the numerous plantations in Florida during the 16th and 17th centuries. The area now known as Florida was first inhabited by Native Americans, who were later enslaved by Spanish colonists. In 1565, the Portuguese explorer Duarte Lopes explored and claimedFlorida for Spain. By 1587, Spanish colonists had established two small missions in what is now Jacksonville. In 1613, Englishman William Westmoreland claimedFlorida for England on behalf of King James I of England. The English colony of Jamestown was founded in 1607, and shortly thereafter began to grow rapidly with a population of over 1,000 people. From 1613 until its collapse in 1815, Jamestown served as both a base for English exploration and a center for slave trade operation between Africa and America. In 1627, the English military governor of Cuba John Stedman moved his garrison to Pensacola and began construction of Fort Myers on Saint Augustine Beach opposite present-day Jacksonville. After months of work, Fort Myers became operational on October 24,1627. At its height (by 1700), Fort Myers consisted of forty cannons along with an arsenal including firearms such as bayonets and pistols In response to this growing threat from Spanish forces located in Mobile Bayou at Pensacola Bayou (now part of Tampa)and Havana River?, Englishmen built Fort Gaines on Lake Okeechobee in 1629 under command of Colonel Edward Braddock Sr.. In the early 1800s, Plantation was a large and important citrus plantation in Florida. The land was first owned by Captain James Cook who landed on the coast of Florida in 1765. Captain Cook's group of men explored the area and discovered sugarcane and other natural resources. By 1810, Plantation had become a major center for sugar production in Florida. In 1830, Plantation was purchased by Augustus Dearborn and renamed Gainesville after Dearborn's home state of Michigan. The Gainesville Plantation continued to be one of the most important citrus plantations in Florida until it closed its doors in 1925.
