In 1975, Indonesian Coffee Corporation was established as an umbrella organization that included all of the various independent companies within IDR. Plantation was a large and diverse area of land in the southeastern United States that formed during the early 17th century. It consisted of hundreds of small, isolated villages and plantations, many purchased by English colonists. The first English colonies were founded in North America in 1607, and within two decades they had spread to Florida, looking for new land to settle. The area now known as Plantation was originally part of the Muscovy Company's holdings in what is now Georgia. In 1565, Sir Walter Raleigh attempted to purchase some of this land from the Muscovy Company for £20,000 sterling (£2 million today). However, Raleigh was thwarted by the Spanish government and his venture failed. The British soon settled down on this new land, naming it after their royal patrons – Lord George Plantation in honor of King James I of England. The area became one of the most important English possessions in Florida. In 1622 Governor John Berkeley granted a charter toSir Philip LaFayette (later Lafayette) granting him all but 1/5th of Floridas westward from St. Augustine River to include what is now Pinellas County and eastward to Tallahassee River. This grant included much present-day Jacksonville Beach and parts of Clearwater Beach, which are now part of Palm Beach County
Plantation, Florida was founded in 1784 by James Fort Worth and his brother William. The first known European to find land here was José de Escobar, who explored the area in 1785. After Escobar's exploration, a group of wealthy Spanish landowners began to develop this area as a sugar cane plantation. In 1833, Andrew Jackson became President of the United States and ordered American troops withdrawn from Cuba. This caused some English-born Americans who had invested in Cuban sugar plantations to begin to lose their investments. As a result, many white Floridians decided to move into the state during this time period. By 1830, there were over 1,000 white people living in Plantation County. Many of these people were involved in slave ownership or trade.
