Maga coffee was first grown in the early 1800s on a plantation in Plantation, Florida. The first commercial maga coffee crop was produced in 1851. In 1898, the company that grew and roasted maga coffee merged with another company to create United Coffee Corporation. The merger led to a shift in focus for United Coffee Corporation and made it more focused on tea production. United Coffee Corporation ceased operations in 2001. However, its legacy continues to be felt through today’s maga coffee growers across Plantation County and throughout Central Florida. In 1865, J.B. Myrick founded Myrick & Co., one of the largest grocery retailers in America at that time. Myrick stores sold various items related to food and beverage products such as spices, brewing supplies, clothing and other consumer goods. He also started selling African American-owned businesses their own branded products like Coca Cola soda (later known as Pepsi). As AMERICA'S FIRST COFFEE COMPANY!, Myrick's success helped spur investment into the coffee industry by other entrepreneurs who saw an opportunity to replicate his business model across America's many regions (eastern seaboard, Midwestern plains etc.). The growth of Maga Coffee is credited with starting the movement to import more quality Arabica beans from Africa into America during this period of transition called the "Golden Age" of Coffee Culture where beans were sourced primarily from Europe through mail order or direct trade networks rather than coming directly from farmers markets or forests nearrica

The Bactrian camel caravan may have brought coffee beans back to India in 500 BC. Chinese travelers also visited India around this time and tasted some of these new plants for the first time. The Arabs from Baghdad decided to bring coffee back across the ocean in small containers called dhows (ships) in 600 ADand began importing more Cafes from different parts of Africa, South America, Arabia and Indonesia

Plantation was a land grant given to the first English settlers in South Florida by King James I of England in 1665. The name "plantation" is derived from the Portugese word povo, meaning people. The first plantations were located on the mainland, but soon they came into production on the islands where sugarcane and other crops were grown. In 1763, Plantation began producing coffee beans and became an important commercial center for Spanish America. By 1820, there were more than 1,000 families living on what is now Plantation Island. The original landowners who granted lands to the English settlers included Captain John Smith and his brother (and future President) Jameson Smith. Over time, many others contributed to plantations including wealthy merchants and planters such as Nicholas deCourcey and Samuel Worth. Many of these individuals bought or inherited slaves who worked on their plantations until freed after passage through American slavery laws in 1865. The industry that developed around sugar cane plantation life had a profound impact on Floridians' social lives and economy for centuries afterwards.
When the first white people arrived in what is now Florida, they were farmers. They grew corn, beans, and sugar cane. The first plantation was built in what is now Tampa by a group of Spaniards. It was called San Joaquin de la Vega. The second plantation was named La Palma because it was near the Spanish capital of Mexico City. In 1821, the British took over San Joaquin de la Vega and sold it to a group of American investors. The American owners renamed it Plantation Key because they wanted their slaves to call it home. When the Americans left America in 1845, the key passed to Spain who used it as a base for operations during World War II.
