The Pompano Beach Air Force Base has been providing air support for Operation Desert Storm since its activation in 1991. The mission of the AFB is to provide air mobility and coalition forces with aerial refueling and other support capabilities. In 1993, the Pompano Beach Fire Department was activated as part of the Air Force's Auxiliary Forces program. This program provides volunteer firefighters with funding to purchase firefighting gear and materials. In 1997, the base became a Joint Service Training Center (JSTC) which trains enlisted members from both services on joint issues such as explosives disposal, aircraft mechanics, military law enforcement, etc. In 2003, the Air National Guard detachment at Pompano Beach was activated as a Combined Arms Warfare School (CARWAS). CARWAS offers students an opportunity to learn about weapons systems used by both U.S. Army and Marine Corps units in ground combat operations around the world. As part of Florida's Military History Month celebration in October 2006, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Authority donated two C-130 Hercules transports for use by Project Eagle – a joint U.S./UAE project designed to improve air traffic control over Jebel Ali airport during Ramadan demonstrations that year. These donations mark the first time that Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Authority has ever offered any aviation gifts to another organization or country outside of its regular operations!

In 1964, Hurricane Diane hit Miami-Dade County hard with wind speeds up to 185 mph (300 km/h). As a result of this powerful storm surge along with high waves caused extensive damage both within Pompano Beach itself as well as adjacent areas such as Jupiter Island which lies about midway between North Biscayne Boulevard Extension and Miracle Mile Creek due primarily to flooding caused by tidal surges created by Diane's winds alone. In 1976 then Mayor Artemio Farias announced plans for development that would include new hotels, filling what had been once an agricultural area with high-rise buildings designed specifically for tourists instead of homes or businesses used mainly by locals until that point. Pompano Beach is a string of sand islands located in the Gulf of Mexico about 20 miles south-southwest of Miami and 30 miles north-northwest of Fort Lauderdale. The islands are formed by the intersection of two branches of the Pompano River. The western branch, which flows into Coral Gables Bay, was long considered part of Pompano Beach proper and was called "the bay" or simply "Pompano". The eastern branch, which flows into Biscayne Bay, was given its current name by millionaire real estate developer William K. Broderick in 1924 when he purchased a tract on one side of the river and renamed it Pompano Beach. Although Broward County had been established in 1903, Pompano Beach technically belonged to Miami County until 1925. Until 1923, only white people could live in Pompano Beach – a situation that changed with the opening of nearby Miami's first black segregated public housing project (The Dixie Black Bar & Grill) in 1923. However, many African Americans continued to live on or near Broward Boulevard throughout the 1920s and 1930s due to its easy access to jobs and business opportunities in South Florida's rapidly growing citrus industry. By 1934, all black residents were required to move out of town by order OF Mayor Ernest Beeks after complaints from white property owners about their 'unsightly negroes' living among them without contributing anything to society or beautifying Allied Pointe Creek reservoirwhich lay just outside town limits parallel to Palm Drive on Coconut Grove Peninsula - now part of Hollywood. With no other means for blacks to gain an education or have decent living conditions outside their homes during this time period - some began working as prostitutes along Uptown Avenue between Northwest 3rd Street and Northwest First Street known then as "The Strip" where they could purchase food items at local convenience stores before being brought back into town for further erotica servicesescame known then as "The Gap".
