Pompano Beach, Florida is a small town located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 7,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The Town of Pompano Beach has been around since 1892 and became an incorporated municipality on December 15th, 1952. The town was founded by the brothers Manuel and Isaac Pompano on a small peninsula that juts out into Biscayne Bay. Today’s Pompano Beach began as just two homes: one belonging to Isaac Pompano and the other to his brother Manuel. By 1892, both men had died, leaving their families behind to continue developing the land. In 1912, local entrepreneur Harry Gohl bought 8 acres from Abram Pollack for $5 thousand dollars which he used as a golf course and agricultural farmstead until 1935 when he sold it to developer Clarence Denny for $35 thousand dollars which also included the development of what is now known as Pompano Boulevard (then called Government Road). In 1951, after years of discussion between Mayor John Hynes and members of the Board of Commissioners, Pompano Beach became an incorporated municipality with its own government. On December 15th, 1952 residents voted 3-2 in favor of incorporation over proposals to rename it “Coral Springs” or “Dolphin Key” due to objections from nearby Coral Springs which saw its name being given away for free by then-Mayor Hynes in an effort to improve relations between the two towns - something that didn't sit well with many residents who preferred their community's original name! Today nearly half a century later - thanks in part to continued growth within our community and investment from developers like Clive Beginnings -Pompano Beach continues to thrive as one of South Florida's most vibrant communities full of culture and shopping opportunities overlooking Biscayne Bay!
