The National Guard in Pompano Beach, Florida was founded on December 12, 1947. The first officers of the National Guard were Captain John D. Healey and Lieutenant Colonel J.B. Hennessey with the assist from Sergeant Major George Wold and First Lieutenant Kenneth A. Kline. The first unit to be organized was Company C which was activated on December 14, 1947 at 4:00am and served for six months before being disbanded due to lack of funding. On May 6, 1948 a new Company B was activated at 4:00am and served for four years before being renamed Company A on October 1, 1950 because there were no more companies in the area that could properly answer the call for service under then law (Company A had originally been raised from donations by local residents). In 1957 a new battalion was raised called Battalion E which consisted of two Companies F and G along with supporting units such as a detachment from Headquarters Battalion VFW 9594 stationed at Fort Lauderdale Airport which functioned as an airmobile reserve battalion until 1968 when it became an all-volunteer unit known as “The Buccaneers” under the command of Major General Rufus Latham who also served as Commanding Officer until his retirement on January 2, 1981. In 1978 a third battalion (Battalion G) was raised which consisted of three Companies H through N with detachments from Headquarters and Service Forces battalions stationed throughout Broward County including Stonington Island (the only island in Miami-Dade County), Miramar (in Palm Beach County), Hollywood Hills (in Broward County) and Coral Springs (in Orange County). A total of 10 companies have been mobilized since 1987 providing manpower for military exercises sponsored by various organizations including “Summer Camp America” held every summer since 1951; Specialty training exercises such as "A Better Tomorrow" conducted annually since 1960; numerous humanitarian missions such as braiding hair for children during Katrina; World War II remembrance events such as remembrance ceremonies attended by veterans each year beginning in 2002; State/National Guardsmen Memorial Day Parade both days following New Year's Eve; Flag observances including flyovers over county courthouse during Martin Luther King Jr.'s funeral anniversary parade in 1999; Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony hosted annually at Fort Lauderdale airport across the street from POLICE substation located adjacent to army barracks where troops serve dinner while attending holiday functions detailed herein subsequent paragraphs.)

Pompano Beach is a small, secluded town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 16,853 at the 2010 census. It is located on Pompano Beach Boulevard, about 8 miles southwest of downtown Miami and 5 miles east of Boca Raton. The name "Pompano" comes from its location on the mouth of the Pompano River. The beach became popular for swimming and sunbathing in the early 20th century because it was undeveloped and accessible only by boat or by walking through tortoiseshell cliffs that led down to the ocean. In 1926, developer Philip Morris developed Pompano Beach as a resort with championship golf courses, penthouses and luxurious homes. The original development included more than 100 buildings and 12 beaches along Pompano Boulevard. By the end of the decade, however, recession had taken its toll on business and tourism; by 1932, only 10% of visitors were locals while 90% were tourists from other parts of Miami-Dade County. To make up for lost income, Morris began developing new properties in what is now Boca Raton; some became known as "The Metropolitan." In 1937 he built Palm Island which featured a casino and suburbia surrounding it that still exists today as part of Boca Raton's Little Havana district. With World War II raging nearby , Morris turned his attention to creating an artificial island off the coast for military purposes – one that would remain important even after America's victory over Japan in 1945 . His creation – Fort Lauderdale – became one of South Floridas most prominent tourist destinations during post-war years thanks to its casinos (later demolished), shopping malls (now part of Wilton Place) and relaxed lifestyle which contrasted markedly with Hollywood's frenzied postwar boom times. Upon American entry into World War II , U.S Naval forces requisitioned land near Pompano Beach so they could build an airfield within striking distance of Japan's major naval bases including Yokosuka Bay . To finance this project (and others throughout South Florida ), Philip Morris formulated a plan called Operation Coral Sea which involved loan guarantees from Federal Reserve Banks around Los Angeles ; when war started Hughes Aircraft built two giant observation towers () directly above Japanese installations at Muro Ichi Airfield (). These towers offered perfect views not justduring combat but also during peacetime when planes could be flown low over Japanese shipping lanes–a capability later used to great effect against Pearl Harbor .)
