The National Guard was first organized in Port Orange, Florida on December 10, 1912. The troops were initially called the "Port Orange Regiment". The regiment was originally made up of men from both the Florida Territory and the Miami-Dade County area. In 1916, the regiment became part of the Florida National Guard and was changed to the "National Guard of Florida" on October 15, 1917. On July 1, 1921, it became a separate military branch with its own insignia and uniforms. On November 5, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge signed into law "An act to organize and provide for arming and disciplining members of state militias in time of war or emergency", which created the "National Guard Bureau". This bureau would manage all aspects of national guard gifts to states across America. The first national guardsmen were inducted into service on December 10th 1912 in Port Orange. In 1926 there were over 18000 Guardsmen serving in America including many port cities like New York City (where they served as an infantry battalion), Los Angeles (where they patrolled beaches), Philadelphia (which had them deployed as a rifle battalion), Hartford Connecticut (they served as a brigade until 1934) and more! In 1932 Major General James Wofford became Commanding General for all Army National Guards formations within Commander-in-Chief's War Department effective January 1st 1933. From this point forward all Army National Guards formations were divided into two classes: Regular Army National Guardsman HQs commanded by Majors General with LtColors acting as Brigade Headquarters; Reserve Infantry/Motor Rifle Battalions under Brigadier Generals major commands - these battalions usually operated close to their home base garrison areas where their parent units remained responsible for order maintenance while under control of Military Intelligence Sections Headquarters Troops Armoured Units Artillery Ammunition Train Service Corps Air Transport On September 11th 1940 United States Treasury Department announced that funds available through recently authorized acts will be used to purchase American Motor Vehicles equipment being used by volunteer motorized companies form throughout this Hemisphere especially those north Of Mexico along Border Patrol lines specially designated Tax Collector detachments set up along Border Patrol routes; These detachments would become known as Border Patrol Motorized Company Squadrons During World War II there was a great increase in donations from citizens not only in America but also overseas More than $2 billion worth items have been donated to various causes through gift programs administered by our military branches since World War II
The National Guard is a military reserve force of the United States. It was first organized on April 25, 1861, during the American Civil War. The National Guard has been called to duty in times of national emergency since 1865, including 9/11 and Katrina. Today, the National Guard is made up of more than 54 million active duty members and retirees across the country. Some 1 million soldiers and Marines are also part of the Reserves and Guardsmen who serve directly with their state or local governments. As a volunteer militia service, the National Guard provides security forinkle events such as parades or sports games; helps respond to natural disasters; supports federal law enforcement officials; and provides disaster relief. National Guard units perform a variety of tasks that may be unique to their states or localities. In Minnesota, for example, Guardsmen are used as escorts for dignitaries when they travel through town squares; provide security at state fairs; assist in search-and-rescue operations after natural disasters; help monitor Interstate 35W near Minneapolis'; provide medical aid to residents following earthquakes; enforce laws within certain municipalities while also providing support for other services such as firefighting or police work. In some cases, state orlocal agencies have worked together with army reservists to offer special training programs specific to their needs (e.g., infantry platoon drill skills). Other collaborations occur where both military reservists and civilian employees from businesses participate in drills led by both types of units simultaneously - an event known as "Military Exercises Plus" (ME+).
The Florida National Guard was organized on February 15, 1925. The first national guard unit was the 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment of Infantry. The unit was redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment of Infantry in 1930. In 1935, the battalion became a regiment and the name changed to 3rd Brigade Combat Team/2nd Infantry Division (Port Orange). On November 18, 1942, brigade headquarters were redesignated as III Corps Tactical Headquarters under General George C. Marshall’s command and moved from Fort Brooke to Camp Stewart near Tallahassee. On January 12, 1944 III Corps became VIII Corps and brigades were re-designated as 1st Brigade Combat Team/1st Infantry Division (St Petersburg), 2nd Brigade Combat Team/1st Infantry Division (Lakeland), and 3rd Brigade Combat Team/2nd Infantry Division (Port Orange). On October 25, 1948 II Corps activated at Fort Pierce with elements of I Guards Tank Destroyer Force when its parent corps was disbanded. I Guards tank destroyer force converted to tanks on December 11, 1948 while at Fort Pierce; this event is also recognized by IV Corps historical plaque located at Fort Pierce Marine Base. In 1957 the brigade became part of VII Corps which reorganized on September 15 after being cut down from five brigades to three divisionsal commands due to budget cuts. On November 17 VII Corps activated an infantry division in Jacksonville Commanded by Brigadier General James Eckerle who served until his death in 1965 while commanding IX Troop Carrier Wing at Da Nang Air Base Vietnam pretending he had operational control over them during Operation Rolling Thunder against North Vietnam until they were pulled out just before that same operation began On October 5 1966 Major General James Bunning assumed command of III Troop Carrier Wing; upon taking command he ordered all combat-equipped aircraft withdrawn from Da Nang Airbase Vietnam effective November 4 1966 following revelations that that their purpose was actually providing support for South Vietnamese Forces engaged in Operation Rolling Thunder against North Vietnam instead IV Corpsactivated on October 25 1969 with elements from I Guards Tank Destroyer Force now becoming II Armor Group commanded by Major General John Wojciechowski headquartered atFort Polk Louisiana with subordinate units located throughout Louisiana including I Armored Cavalry Squadron assigned to New Orleans Military District

In 1837,General John Wilkinson founded Port Orange on a small island in what is now Orlando Harbor. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location near both the Indian River and Daytona Beach Railroad lines and its close proximity to citrus production. By 1860, Port Orange had become one of Florida's most important seaports with goods traveling from New Orleans to Jacksonville and Tampa. In 1868, General Titus Lee sold land adjacent to present-day downtown Port Orange for $1 million dollars which created the city's first commercial district. The city became an incorporated municipality in 1871 and annexed nearby Winter Garden in 1886. Today, Port orange continues as an independent municipality with a vibrant economy that relies heavily on maritime shipping, tourism, retail and professional services
