In 1954, the Port Orange Gun Club was formed in Port Orange, Florida. It was an organization that aimed to promote and preserve firearms and shooting activities in the city. The club held meetings and shared information about guns, ammo, fishing, hunting, and other shooting hobbies. In 1966, the club changed its name to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). This change reflected the trend of gun-related organizations changing their names often to reflect their new mission or focus. The NSSF is responsible for maintaining a registry of all firearm manufacturers and dealers in the United States. They also sponsor national events such as the National Sporting Shooters Association’s annual meeting and championships. The club has been involved with many different types of firearms over the years. In 1978, they introduced a bolt-action rifle called the Beretta PX4 Storm . This rifle became very popular with shooters due to its simple design and ease of use. Over time, more and more members joined the club to enjoy this type of firearmsmanship experience. Port Orange, Florida is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 43,912 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Broward County. The city was founded in 1867 and became a municipality in 1903. Its name comes from the old Spanish name of Fort Myers Peninsula – "Puerto de Oro" ( meaning "fortress of gold"). The economy of Port Orange is based on tourism and the manufacturing industry. The city has a large shopping mall and an amusement park. In recent years, it has become home to two major universities: Stetson University (a private institution) and American University (an international university). Jacksonville also borders Port Orange to its south-west. The first settlers in what would become Port Orange were white men who had come down from Tampa Bay area in 1867 to help build railroads. They named their town after José Ortiz Cepeda y Urdiales,1st Count of Málaga for his part in helping build the Miami–Ft Myers railway line.2 He had come down as part of a group led by Manuel Coello y Zúñiga that arrived December 12th, 1866 aboard the brigantine "Cayo de la Isabel".3 At first they built only mission buildings but soon began trading with Native Americans living along the coast near Stonington Key .4 By 1901, when Port Orange became a municipality under state law, there were over 4 thousand people living in town including 1 thousand farmers and fishermen who farmed almost all around Cape Coral Sound; more than one hundred ships called at local ports during this time including twenty-six steamships registered with the port authority; four warehouses used for storage; three doctors practicing medicine out of eight licensed physicians; two newspapers: one Republican and one Democrat; six blacksmithsmiths active on both landowner/fertilizer dealerships as well as some ten boatbuilders working on vessels constructed either by owner or builder up until 1912 when prohibition made boatbuilding illegal ;twenty-five families owning or rented homes within five blocks bounded by First Street NW., Second Street NW., Third Street NE., Fourth Street SW., and Fifth Avenue SE.; various stores open day or night such as bakery - Mrs Doherty's Bakery & Cafe - Drucker's Drug Store - Gold's Hardware Store; opera house - Teatro Italiano which opened its doors October 3rd 1865 with Donizetti's Tosca ; post office - established November 15th 1861 serving townspeople for twelve days before being moved to Government House where it remained until May 2nd 1865 when it reopened at Union House next door serving general public until February 14th 1870 when it moved into new building erected on present site west side street between First Avenue SE corner Second Avenue SE
