The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the city of Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1951. The gift was an American Eagle helicopter that had been donated by General Electric Company. The helicopter was delivered to the City as part of Operation Christmas Tree and also served as a promotional tool for the city's businesses.

The USAF deployed gift history in 1957. The first deployment of the AFB Gift History Program was on Dec. 9, 1957, when the USAF sent a shipment of military surplus items to Fort Worth, Texas. From then through the early 1960s, gifts were donated from all over the United States to support various programs at Fort Worth Army Air Base. In 1963, the program became an air forcewide initiative and soon began accepting donations from personnel and civilian alike. In 1974-1975, AFB Gift History became part of Air Forces Specialty Programs Command (AFSPC). AFSPC is responsible for stewardship and management of all USAF gift programs including AFB Gift History.Today AFB Gift History continues to be a vital part of our military family by supporting many unique philanthropic endeavors across the US Air Force community.
Port St. Lucie is a census-designated place located in unincorporated Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Augustine Combined Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1892 by Jules Brugman and his brother-in-law George Madden as a fishing village on the mouth of the St. Lucie River near where it empties into Miami Bay. The name originated from an incident that took place on October 12, 1892 when two Portuguese vessels coming downriver collided with each other and were both sunk; according to one account, more than 40 people lost their lives as a result of this accident. In 1907, Port St. Lucie became a U.S. port town after being chosen by President Theodore Roosevelt for its strategic location between Miami and Tampa Bay on the southern end of Lake Okeechobee which forms the Atlantic seaboard of Florida and provides access to shipping lanes leading to Europe and Asia; it also had advantages such as close proximity to airports serviced by airlines such as American Airlines and Delta Air Lines). In 1916, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of what remained of Port Saint lucie after causing extensive damage to nearby Fort Pierce; however, economic development continued through waves of new immigrants who arrived during World War II because Of its strategic location near major naval bases including Naval Station Everglades (now Fort Lauderdale International Airport) and Plantation Key airfields used by fighter planes flown from Coral Gables Field (now Homestead Airport). Port St. Lucie is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 37,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. In 1847, Captain John Sowers and his men established Fort Pierce on the present-day site of Port St. Lucie after losing their shipwrecked venture from Key West to this location and findingered for lack of food and water. When the U.S. Army constructed Fort Richardson in 1849, Captains Sowers and Pryor received promotion to major and captain respectively; both men were with the 1st Infantry Regiment during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). The first post office was established here on November 16, 1847 by James Auld (later Postmaster General), who named it "Fort Pierce". The first school in Port StLucie was started in 1850 by Mrs . Haleigh Atwater as an academy for boys under instruction by Miss Watson; but it did not operate until 1861 when it became an all female high school known as "Mrs . Atwater's Female Academy". In 1889, Spanish explorer Manuel de la Raza founded a mission called San Pedro de las Guasimbas near present day Old Port St Lucie Boulevard and Northwest 70th Street; but no church or other structures were built thereuntil 1915 when Don José Garcia y Murga erected a small chapel thereon behalf of his parishioners who had fled Mexico City during Revolution persecutions there) A new shopping center was built here in 1984 adjacent to IGA Supermarket which anchored what has been one of its anchor stores since its opening until its merger with JCPenney In 2002 the city annexed Marina del Rey which lies just north of downtown redevelopment that began starting around that time with plans for mixed use development including residences, offices/retail space/theater etc...the annexation led to increased development activity along many streets leading into what had been farmland before becoming an urban core including Harbor Drive & NE 72nd Street which are now lined with high rises housing developments
