Port St. Lucie, Florida is a city located on the southeast coast of Miami-Dade County in South Florida. The population was 753,545 as of 2018 and is the fifth most populous city in Miami-Dade County. Its surroundings include the Port St. Lucie Sound, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean that forms part of the town's southern border and is flanked by counties to its north and east. The sound includes many islands which make up portions of what is now Port St. Lucie Beach, Jacob’s Island, Baltic Isle and Deerfield Beach. The first coffee beans were grown in this area in 1847 and coffee roasting began here in 1865. In 1907 A&P grocery store opened here which became one of the largest retailers in town until it closed its doors in 1998. Arabian Coffee Co., which was founded by two businessmen from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia started making coffee here in 1928 before moving their production to Indonesia that year. Intelligentsia Coffee Corporation bought Arabian Coffee Co.'s assets in 1984 and continued manufacturing coffee at their plant until it closed down in 1990; however, some non-Arabian varieties still remain being roasted today at this location under the name "Intelligentsia." In 1964 a new port was developed adjacent to Intelligentsia Coffee Corp.'s port facility; this leads to what is now Coconut Point Marina (CPSL) which features a 9 mile sandy beachfront water frontage with three restaurants/bars - Cafe del Mar, Bayside Grill &Bar &Patterson's Pier - as well as a marina with showers/bathrooms for visitors ashore as well as 16 slips for pleasure boats moored there seasonally during low tide periods only; while also having an office building housing Intelligentsia Coffee Corp.'s marketing department overlooking both bays providing point of sale services for customers ashore through liveaboardsman who conduct transactions using walk-up computers situated inside or outside these buildings; also comprising 2 observation decks affording wonderful views both southward towards downtownMiami across Tamiami Trail onto Biscayne Bay Once you have reached high tide mark walk along either side of trackless beach past restrooms labeled "Inland Waters" then back out into open ocean where boat traffic ceases! Port St. Lucie, Florida is a town in Marion County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,836 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan statistical area. The first European to visit what is now Port St. Lucie was Captain Juan Ponce de León on his journey from Havana to Tampa in 1513. He named it La Isla de las Palmas after his islands of Bermuda and Puerto Rico (Islas Canarias). Spanish sailors who discovered the region in the 16th century called it "Rocaforte" or "Rocaforte Key". In 1821, Pierre-Simon La Salle chartered a ship and set out for Tampa Bay with supplies for his ill-fated expedition against Manuel de Floridablanca y Las Casas on October 25 that year – but never arrived at his destination. On December 11, 1821, he sighted land about two leagues distant northeast of Fort Myers on an island he had named Santa Rosa after Saint Raphael of Rome; this became known as Port St. Lucie because it lay between San Marcos and Santa Rosa Islands (present day Clearwater Beach). In 1946 Portsweepers organization was founded with John Fenton as its president ; membership grew rapidly until 1949 when it merged into American Legion Post #1041 In 1957 there was an addition to the downtown core consisting of twostory brick box structure No 6405 W Jones Blvd which housed government offices before being sold to the city for use as City Hall .
