Port St. Lucie, Florida is a city on the Androscoggin River in central Brunswick County, Maine. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston–New Bedford–Fenway, MA-NH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1903 by Captains John Purdy and George Halsey as a ferry landing on the Androscoggin River for shipping materials from New England to Maine. In 1907, it became an incorporated town with a population of 1,500 people and its first mayor was J. W. McGillivray. The growth of Port St. Lucie led to the addition of a second street and two blocks of buildings in 1912 when the town's only square mile was bought by developers for $2,000 (the current Fourth Street/Route 2 intersection). In 1920 Captain Elisha Sibley bought land east of downtown and began developing what would become known as "Sibley Park." This included lands now occupied by Third Street/Route 2 and State Road 12A; First Street/Route 11; Pioneer Road/Route 10; North Avenue/Route 5; South Avenue/Route 3; Elm Street/I-95 exit 16E; west side of Nicholson Lake bisected by Second Street (now First Avenue); and east side of Nicholson Lake bisected by ThirdStreet (now State Road 6). The first high school in Port St Lucie opened in 1922 with students from Brunswick County High School and Fitchburg Academy before becoming Bishop English High School in 1951 when that school merged with Brunswick High School north of downtown. In 1987 this school merged with Sacred Heart Catholic High School to form Sacred Heart Catholic University which still operates today as one large high school campus encompassing many elementary schools located throughout southeastern Middlesex County including portions of Brunswick Heights Elementary School on Route 111 near Interstate 95 Exit 16E and new campuses constructed on both sides of Route 202 between Interstate 295 Exit 20B northbound off I-95 just south of US 202 exit 24C within walking distancevmf Of all these campuses Holy Cross Roman Catholic Archbishopate offers religious instruction including spiritual formation for undergraduate students who take classes leading to college degrees through Our Lady's College -Anchor Point Campus located adjacent to Highway 169 about 8 miles southwest or I-495 exit 15E less than 7 miles northwest

Port St. Lucie was founded by Irish immigrants in 1838 as a fishing and trading post on the southern tip of what is now Florida. By 1860, the town had become an important commercial center, with its own port and ferry system. The town prospered through its trade with nearby Cuba, Key West, and Eastern Europe. However, during the American Civil War, Port St. Lucie fell to Confederate forces under General Sherman and was destroyed. In 1865, after Reconstruction ended in America, many of the Irish immigrants who had originated in Port St. Lucie left for new opportunities in other parts of the United States. Some remained in Port St. Lucie; others returned to Ireland but continued to live there until they died or moved away from the country altogether. In 1935, when it was determined that part of Fort Pierce would be used as a naval air base during World War II, Port St. Lucie became one of several towns in Florida chosen for this purpose. It served as Naval Air Station Orchard Beach until 1969 when it was transferred to Naval Base Naples-Fort Myers (NAFTSM). The community has experienced some significant changes over time - most notably during Hurricane Andrew which devastated much of south-central Florida on September 15th 1992 – although most residents have been able to move on with their lives since then without any major damage or disruption resultant from natural disasters like hurricanes etc.? After years of development anticipation by both local businesses and residents alike following a decision made by then Mayor Christine Fordenberry back in 2002 – comprehensive redevelopment began taking shape across 3 main streetscape corridors totaling over 180 thousand sq ft/9 hectares currently comprising: As you walk these streetscape corridors you will see examples from each period mentioned above (1838-1935; 1960s-1970s), while also finding remnants of earlier homes dating back prior to that period such as early 19th century “cottages” located along NW 1st Street just east side Harbor Walkway near current day expressway entrance ramp! This redevelopment project is being spearheaded by our newly formed city government team led by Mayor Deborah Jansen & City Manager Rick Lunsford together with key partners including: Portsmouth Management Corporation (PMC) – who are responsible for all aspects relating to harbor management including dredging/stimulation/maintenance; Carraro Properties LLC who own approximately 6 acres within boundaries described herein; Municipal Court Services which administers civil court needs including summonsing and service; DPW which maintains public property surrounding HarborWalkway corridor & access points thereto; and long term leaseholders PWV Landscaping Inc., Giselle D’Angelo & Frank DeLuca – collectively known as Porthouse Development Partners
