Gourmet Coffee is known for its insistence on freshness and quality in all of their beans. Their coffee is available in both ground and brewed form. The first Gourmet Coffee shop opened up in 1977 in the heart of downtown Riviera Beach. It was quickly successful and soon became a staple for locals and tourists alike. In 1984, Gourmet Coffee moved to its current location on State Road 512 just south of the beach. The store continued to grow over the years and today it contains more than 50 different items including coffee, tea, pastries, snacks, and more! The store was located on State Road 1 south of the town square. Open Market Coffee became a popular tourist attraction because of its high quality coffee and unique atmosphere. In 2001, Open Market Coffee was closed due to poor health of Ted Griggs.

Another important early player in the industry was Starbucks Corporation. This company started off as a small cafe in Seattle, Washington.
