The Riviera Beach National Guard was organized on December 15, 1940. The unit was activated and headquartered at the then Riviera Beach Naval Air Station. On July 1, 1944, the Riviera Beach National Guard was redesignated as theollywoodGuard. The guard's mission is to provide military assistance to local law enforcement agencies in support of homeland security activities. On November 10, 1947, the Riviera Beach National Guard was again renamed as the HollywoodGuard when it became a part of then-U.S. Army Corp of Engineers' Military Assistance Command in Southern California (MACOSCOM). Theguard has been providing military assistance to local law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County since that time. As part of MACOSCOM's Southern California Defense Program (SCDP),the HollywoodGuard participated in Operation Neptune's Spear which saw U.S.-led coalition forces attacking North Vietnam from South Korea beachheads on September 27-30, 1970. During this engagement, elements of theguard served as forward air controllers and gunship pilots for United States Marine Corps planes flying strategic targets inside North Vietnam during Operation Rolling Thunder campaign which lasted for three months..

In 1966 the regiment was mobilized into brigade level service and then disbanded on January 3, 1967 when it was re-activated in Daytona Beach as the Florida Army National Guard's 154th Infantry Brigade Regiment (Volunteer).
