Rockledge is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,502 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kanata–Tallahassee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Rockledge" originated from the large boulder located near the town center which local farmers used to collect shells from the tidal waves that crash against the shore. As more and more people moved into the area, they startedcalling this boulder by its current name - Rockledge after seeing it on a map. Rockledge was platted in 1892 by Jno. Leland Rockledge and family who were early settlers in what is now Polk County. The first store in Rockledge opened in 1893. A post office was established here in 1902, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1959. A Methodist church (built 1907) and school (opened 1909) are still standing today within walking distance of each other; both have been lovingly restored over time and are currently used as community centers. In 1940, when World War II began, many residents enlisted in military service – including many women – thanks to rations given out by then-U.S Army Chief of Staff General George Custer through commandof Camp Blanding Park outside of Jacksonville Beach FL In 1954, Tropical Storm Hermine caused extensive damage to some homes near downtown Rockledge; however most of the damage occurred along US 31 east of town where trees were downed power lines and roofs were damaged or destroyed entirely due to flooding water entering homes through windowsills/pipes etc... Many residents rebuilt their homes following Tropical Storm Hermine while others chose to leave their homes altogether and reestablish themselves elsewhere within Polk County during this difficult time period . In 1957 a new high school was built south of downtown as part Southeastern Floridians Prep High School with an enrollment of 929 students grades 9-12 became operational on September 25th 1957 underHeadmaster Mr Henson Waddell becoming one of only two high schools functioning within Williston Union Elementary Districts for rockcliffe kids during those years ... that building still stands today across US 1 just north of I-4 Exit #204 off I-275 exit ramp making it home to Rockcliffe Junior High School

In addition to its rich history, Rockledge also has numerous heritage sites that can be visited such as Stonington Hall which is home to one of Britain's largest collections of Tudor artefacts and Mansion House where Parliament met between 1765 and 1801.
In 1892, a group of businessmen from Rockledge founded the Rockledge Agricultural and Mechanical Company. The company became one of the largest in the area and produced a variety of agricultural products such as hay, oats, cotton, potatoes, bananas and more. In 1916, the Rockledge Cotton Mill was built and became one of the largest in Florida. The mill produced millions of pounds of cotton each year and helped to drive down prices on the product throughout Florida. In 1954, the company merged with Gulf States Manufacturing Company to form Gulf States Corporation. The company continued to produce a variety of agricultural products until it was sold to Swift Industries in 1984.
