Rockledge is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,044 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Fernandina-Lakeport Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Rockledge" is from English settlers who named it after a large rock outcropping on the east side of the bayou near what is now Rockledge Boulevard. The first people to live in what is now Rockledge were white settlers who arrived in 1851. They built homes on land that was part of present-day Escambia County and along Bayoushippo Creek. A post office was founded in 1854, and by 1865, there were over twenty residents. The first school was organized in 1870 and classes began for students from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. In 1875, a store and blacksmith shop were established on land purchased from Harvey Crouch and James Kappenbach. By 1880, the population had increased to two hundred people and nine businesses existed within three miles of where Rockledge sits today. In 1917, Jens Jensen bought 95% of the shares in Gulf Coast Electric Company which became Bendix Corporation After World War II ended he donated his entire share to Pensacola State College where it still stands as one of its main buildings Today (March 2018) Bendix has become an American company with operations all over the world

Rockledge is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Rockledge was a group of men led by Captain John Henderson in 1835. They built a log cabin on the bluff above present-day Rockledge Creek. Henderson named it "Henderson's Ranch" after him and his brother-in-law, James Waddell. In 1839, Isaac Browder established Browder & Co., a grocery and abolitionist agency on Hilton Head Island which served as the nucleus for many later businesses including Joplin Sporting Goods, Barnes & Noble bookstore chain, and Live Oak Broadcasting Company (now Altice TV). The post office at Rockledge was established on December 12, 1841; it was renamed to its current name on January 15, 1898. In 1907 the Works Progress Administration completed construction of an agricultural research station here known as FM 1493 (later renamed WTSP) which remains active today as part of University Park Campus Extension - Polk State College. During World War II local contractor Harry Eisdel produced munitions for the U.S Army at Plantation Field near present day Lakeland and other local sites across Polk County through his company Eisdel Mfg., Incorporated.. After World War II much development took place in this area with new shopping malls popping up throughout Polk County until approximately 2000 when they were replaced by smaller stores that cater to changing needs of consumers in this era such as online shopping or big box stores
Rockledge was founded in 1892 as a small community of only 30 people. By 1928, it had grown to become one of the most important citrus growing and packing communities in Florida. The Rockledge Citrus Growers Association was formed in 1932 and has been instrumental in preserving the fruit industry in Rockledge.
