A coast guard gift history in Rockledge, Florida started with the creation of the first Coast Guard Station in Rockledge on December 15, 1915. The station was known as “USCGC Miami” and it served as a training ground for the Coast Guard until 1933. In that year, the Coast Guard moved its headquarters to Fort Lauderdale and it was renamed “USCGC Miami Beach”. On November 1, 1935, USCGC Miami Beach became part of the newly created Marine Corps and its name was changed to “USS Coral Gables”. The Navy also took over USCGC Miami Beach on July 1, 1945. It was during this time that USCGC Miami Beach became one of two ocean-going coast guard stations in Florida (the other being USCG Belle Isle). On May 8, 1947, USS Coral Gables received her initial Mainland Defense Establishment (MDE) vessel designation which meant she could support naval gunfire activities off shore during World War II. She remained an MDE ship until October 12, 1951 when she became part of the United States Naval Forces Europe (USEF), based at Naples Italy. USS Coral Gables continued to serve as an USEF ship untilactivation by DOD on September 3, 1957; she then reverted back to MDE status on October 10th under command of Commander destroyer Squadron Eighteen (DESRON 18) At that time DESRON 18 consisted of four destroyers: USS Farragut (DD-8), USS Constitution (CV-2), USS Yorktown (CV-5) and USS Quincy(LCS-1). On March 16 1958 COMdr Rogers transferred control of DESRON 18 from Commander Destroyer Squadron Tenthirteen(CSOT13) to Commander Destroyer Squadron Seventy Seven(CDSeventy seven) At that time CSOT13 consisted of six ships: USS Theodore Roosevelt (DDG-6), USS Hancock(AGS-5), USS Preble(APD-3), HMS Phoebe(PFH-1), HMAS Perthsudoah(PY4)- all assigned to Commodore Robert Higgs commanding Officer Task Force 77 On September 2nd 1960 USCG Belle Isle arrived in Key West after being decommissioned by USDN 5th Fleet April 11th 1959 She had been serving as a floating barracks for CNO staff at NAS Key West awaiting their permanent homes within DOD When Belle Isle arrived there were only 13 personnel aboard including 5 Officers and 28 enlisted men all located onboard superstructure only! Rockledge, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. It was founded in 1892 and is the largest community within Polk County by population. The population of Rockledge was 10,000 in 1950 and has grown to over 20,000 today. Rockledge is a census-designated place (CDP) and it's also the name of one of the Townships that make up Polk County. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 16,193. The ZIP code for Rockledge is 32603. The first settler in what would become Rockledge was John Cockerill who came to land north of present day Coker Road in 1892. He named his land "Coker's Key". In 1907, Jens Olsen arrived at "Baker's Landing" on Big Cypress Creek with his family and began farming there. In 1916 he sold land east of present day Baker Road to Harry Senter who built the first sawmill in this area which became known as Senter's Mill Village later renamed as Rockledge after Harry Senter himself. After World War II ended, many veteran soldiers from the war moved into Rockledge including employees from Gulfport Naval Shipyard where they were employed during their rehabilitation process before returning home to their families and businesses back home across Panama River in Biloxi Beach . Many residents recall Hurricane Katrina Kennecott Bayou flooding which occurred on August 29th 2005 when water levels reached 24 feet high along portions of Big Cypress Creek nears present day Park Boulevard . This event caused extensive damage throughout much of eastern Polk County with some homes destroyed or severely damaged

The Coast Guard Today The Coast Guard traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which was formed in 1775 as a response to British Admiralty notices of an impending French invasion. In 1790, the Continental Navy was divided into two commands: the East Indies Squadron and North America Squadron. These commands were renamed in 1812 when responsibility for both areas transferred from the admiralty to the US Department of War. The first duty of each command was coastal security and protection of shipping lanes against attack or navigation by enemy vessels. In 1917, duties shifted from coastal security to search and rescue operations during World War I. During World War II, coast guard officers served in every theater of war and played a critical role in saving lives and protecting property. For the first time, coast guard personnel were called on to disembark ships at sea for evacuation operations during postwar peace periods. In 1971, responsibility for homeland security was assumed by FEMA within DHS; however, until 1994 coast guard officers continued their roles as part of FEMA's Search and Rescue Unit (SRU). As part of SRU's continuing mission today, coast guard officials respond quickly to incidents involving boating or sailing enthusiasts who may have become stranded on shore due to weather conditions or other emergencies. Today, there are over 12000 members active with the Coast Guard Service worldwide; most serving out of Pearl Harbor Naval Base Hawaii where they provide support for law enforcement patrols on Oahu’s beaches as well as providing medical assistance during earthquakes or natural disasters offshore. Additionally, helicopters are used frequently while fishing off Southern California beaches along with airlifts carrying supplies such as food and water needed by Marines deployed ashore in Iraq or Afghanistan

Rockledge is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The name "Rockledge" was given to the community by James B. Goodspeed in 1875 when he purchased land in what is now Rockledge from Gadsden Purchase Land Company heirs John and Martha Goodspeed. The first occupants of what is now Rockledge were two families who came overland from Georgia in 1837: the Pritchetts and the Smiths. In 1881, Ayer Wernher sold 1,200 acres (500 hectares) of land near present-day Rockledge to Colonel George Washington Hill for $1 per acre ($10 per hectare). Colonel Hill named his property "Hill's Grove." In 1907, Ayer Wernher donated 950 acres (400 hectares) of land to theSeminole County School District which would later become Seminole State College. This donation included a large mansion called "The Old Plantation" which still stands today as one of Seminole State's most recognizable landmarks. The school district also built a smaller building on that tract known as "The New Plantation." In 1962, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of Parkland County including parts of Sanford and Rockledge; however, much remained standing such as The Old Plantation and Hills Grove Mansion which became home to many college students after Palm Beach County evacuated its citizens during the storm. Rockledge has attracted attention for its unique architecture - some examples include: Pinecrest Drive being used as an international airport taxiway; Beechwood Drive having been turned into a theme park with 12 amusement parks including Pleasure Beach; Raymond Boulevard becoming home to several restaurants including Lardo's Italian Restaurant; current-day Main Street becoming home to an ice cream store called cones 'Nimble Noses'.
