Rockledge is a town located in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 16,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area and is adjacent to Fort Lauderdale. The first Europeans to visit the area were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew on their voyage from Italy to Brazil in 1514. In 1764 Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered what would become Rockledge when he landed there on a return trip from his failed expedition across Cuba. The name " Rockledge" was given by Captain John Smith for a small island about east of Fort Lauderdale that he sighted while exploring the Gulf of Mexico in 1763. The island was probably due south of where it now stands and may have been located near present-day Tamarac or Sunrise Boulevard. In 1825, Colonel Augustus De Witt Worth bought land at what is now East Bay Drive and Park Avenue in Rockledge from General John Covington (cavalry general during the American Revolution). He named it Worthville after himself and erected a brick courthouse which still stands today. Worthville became an early center for citrus farming with trees being grown around two spacious ponds - one north of current day Elmhurst Drive and one south of Golden Gate Parkway - which remain as evidence of its importance today. “Worthville” continued to be used long after Colonel Worth died in 1868 when his son Moses purchased 640 acres adjoining Worthville from Doctor Jourdan (founder of Coral Gables). With this purchase, “Worthville” became part of Coral Gables Township which later became unincorporated territory within Broward County; however, much remains unchanged since then including nearly all the original buildings constructed by either father or son – including both extant courthouses! After more than a century living under one roof – mother and children moved out into their own homes in 1925 – all three structures on Point View Road were destroyed by fire: Mrs Ethelworth’s house (now home to Boca Raton KFC), her husband Erastus Pogue’s former plantation office building (now known as Palm Beach Post) and Mrs Jane Goodall Watson’s old schoolhouse/library building (which still stands today). As each structure burned down different members of the family gathered together inside: Mama holding up her red lace handkerchief so firefighters could put out her young daughter Alma sitting perched atop an upturned vase she had found nearby; Papa shaking hands with every firefighter who passed; Sisters filling buckets with water from faucets outside; brothers chopping wood; Uncle Louie pounding nails into boards above windows…. needless to say such gatherings soon turned into quite an annual tradition! A replica farmhouse has been built on Point View Road opposite Mrs Jane Goodall Watson's original schoolhouse/library building since 2006 in memory of those lost back then as well as others who have passed away since those days like Msgr John Fenton who served as pastor at St Dominic's church between 1924-1952 along with his wife Sister Dolores Landis Fenton also known as Justine deputizing during that time…and many more we cannot forget too soon!

Rockledge is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rockledge was founded in 1892 by General James Wilkinson and his brothers-in-law J.C. Swain and W.H. Brownell as a Methodist church settlement on bluffs overlooking the mouth of the Stono River near present day Rockledge Boulevard and Old US 41 (now US 301). The community grew rapidly due to its location on sound and access to the Biscayne Bay area for fishing, boating, sailing, and pleasure boats; it also became known for its many stores and businesses including Wilkinson's Floral Emporium (1892), Fenton's grocery store (1910), Hawkins' hardware store (1912), Piggly Wiggly candy store (1914), Music Hall at the Park (1920) with its own orchestra and dance hall, Atlantic Insurance Company Building/The American Legion Post office building 1930-1945-1950s – now used as an elementary school administrative office building 1924-2001/2002; In 1949 two new towns were created within Polk County when Live Oak became a county seat after being separated from Polk County. These new towns were named Clearwater and Sunrise Point respectively; both communities had no connection with Rockledge whatsoever other than their name change. In 1957rockledge incorporated as a village under state jurisdiction following approval by voters in a special election held that year to approve this move which coincided with claims by some residents of Live Oak that they felt they had been treated unfairly during their previous municipal experience there
