The Florida National Guard was activated in 1947 as a result of the Korean War. The Rockledge detachment first served in the Pensacola Division and then in the Jacksonville Division before being reassigned to Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1969. From 1970-1973, the Rockledge detachment served as an attached unit to Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of First Battalion, 5th Regiment, District of Central Florida. In 1974-1975, the detachment was redesignated 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment (Florida), 2nd Brigade Combat Team (2BCT). The battalion participated in Operation Neptune’s Spear which occurred during the Iran-Iraq War. In 1998-1999, 1st Battalion 5th Regiment (Florida) relocated from Fort Pierce to Maitland and became a brigade combat team with 3rd Brigade Combat Team (3BCT). As part of this change in brigade structure 1st Battalion 5th Regiment ceased to exist as a unit. However its members continued to serve with their respective brigade combat teams until 2002 when they were consolidated into 3rd Brigade Combat Team at Camp Lejeune. The battalion has since been disbanded and its members have been reorganized into company sized units or individual detachments stationed at various installations throughout the state of Florida

The National Guard was first organized in Florida on January 15, 1907. The unit was originally called the Volunteer Infantry Regiment and it was activated at Fort Pickens. In 1912, the regiment was redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, Miami Regiment and it served in World War I. In 1921, it became the 3rd Battalion, Miami Regiment and served in World War II. After World War II, the battalion became a brigade-level unit and it was stationed in Rockledge from 1957 to 1987. From 1987 to 1998 it was stationed at Fort Myers.
Rockledge is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,741 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Rockledge has a post office with ZIP code 32609. The first settler in what would become Rockledge was James Hanks, who came to the area around 1857. He named it after his home state of Rhode Island. In 1865, Jno Waddell homesteaded on an upland east of present-day downtown Rockledge and gave its name to the community; he also built Waddell's Store which still stands today as a landmark in the town square. In 1892, lawyer and congressman John Lennon moved his family to Rockledge from their home in Jupiter after they lost their election campaign funds there. He set up a law practice there and later served as Monroe County commissioner and Asst U S Atty General during World War II. Two years before JFK was assassinated in Dallas, Lennon sold his interest in the business to fellow political figure Senator Ted Kennedy for $2 million dollars (the equivalent of $ ). Lennon's store continued to be open until about 1990 when it closed due to fire damage caused by Hurricane Andrew; however, some remnants of the store still stand today on Pleasant Street across from the old Post Office building (now called "The Beat Hotel"). The building now houses several businesses including Button Latch Rentals Inc., which opened up inside last year and provides services like door-to-door delivery service through Amazon Go! Other businesses that have been located inside or outside of The Beat Hotel include Hardees' restaurant (which closed down back in 2016), State Road 514 Truck Stop & Grog Shop ($14M renovation project completed late 2017), Jimmy Johns Pizza ($) which opened up early this year adjacent to State Road 514 Truck Stop & Grog Shop) - all three are currently active commercial leases within Rockledge limits! Finally, one other business that has been operating since before Hurricane Andrew: A Bait & Tackle shop known as " bait 'n' tackle" near where US 4 meets SR 514
The history of the National Guard is a long and complex one. The Guard has been around since 1775, when units were raised to supplement the militia in response to the American Revolution. In 1802, the first national guard regiment was organized in New York City. The unit grew rapidly and by 1812 there were fourteen regiments scattered across the nation. In 1861, after Confederate States of America was formed, many states began raising National Guards to help protect their citizens from potential violence. By 1865, there were over two hundred thousand men serving in the Guard throughout the country. Over time, Guard units have been used for a variety of purposes including VETERANS AFFAIRS recruitment; security at major government events; military drills and exercises; and disaster relief work. Today, the National Guard continues to play an important role in our society and culture. It provides individuals with an opportunity to serve their country without having to leave their home or job; it offers community engagement opportunities; and it helps support military families during these difficult times.
The National Guard has been a vital part of the United States since its inception. The first units were raised in 1792 to protect the new nation during its early years. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln called for the creation of a national guard system to provide backup in case of war. On July 15, 1861, the first regiment was organized under the command of Major General James Longstreet and was placed under the justification of being “the only permanent military force existing in America.” As time passed and more states joined the Union, it became clear that there was not enough National Guardsmen to cover all potential emergencies. So on September 25, 1864, Congress passed Senate Bill No. 971 which created three separate branches of the National Guard- infantry (state militias), cavalry (national guard forces from each state), and artillery (National Guard Artillery). These divisions would be answerable to their respective governors instead of directly to President Lincoln. This system would remain in place until 1906 when it was changed back to one national guard division per governor.
Rockledge is a town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what would become Rockledge were three families who arrived in 1836. The town was platted on October 12, 1838 by John C. Bowen and James Gadsden. In 1865, the railroad line from Tampa to St Petersburg was built through Rockledge and it quickly grew into a small community with only a few homes and businesses. In 1954, the name of the town changed to honor General Douglas MacArthur during World War II when he became Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe after being relieved of his duties as commander of U.S Forces Japan. In 1960, General MacArthur's Presidential Library and Museum were built within walking distance of Rockledge High School which still remains today as one of its most popular tourist destinations despite its age. In 1992, two new high schools were opened - Pinecrest High School (now known as Martin Luther King Jr.) and Clearwater Senior High School (now known as Gulfstream Park High School). These schools helped change Rockledge into one of South Florida's fastest-growing communities with many new residents moving to this small town over the past several years due to its high quality schools and easy access to shopping malls and other amenities located near downtown Tampa or St Petersburg

The name of the town originated with Dr. John Fenton who named it after his estate called "Rockledge Manor" near Liverpool, England. In 1954, Rockledge became an incorporated municipality and has since grown rapidly and changed its slogan to "The Gateway to Jaguars." In recent years, it has become home to multiple businesses including One Stop Shop Sporting Goods Outlet and Jax Nissan dealership which merged in 2009 with Nissan North America dealerships across Tampa Bay region creating one largest automotive mall in South Florida!
