Rockledge is located in Polk County, Florida, and it has been the home of the Rockledge Coffee Company for over a century. The company was founded by George H. Witherspoon in 1887 and its first coffee was ground at his farm on Dempster Street. In 1916, Rockledge became the site of World War I military training camp and it would remain so until 1979. After World War II, Rockledge continued to be a center for technology industry activity with companies like IBM and Philips based there. In the early 1960s, Rockledge became home to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory which still uses part of its property today. Today, Rockledge is known as an important center for maritime trade with its many container terminals and anchored shipping lanes. It also has a variety of museums including the Kendall-Hunt History Museum which features exhibits about local music and art history.

Rockledge is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The Rockledge community began as a small farmers' market on U.S. Route 301 near where it now stands and grew rapidly with the opening of two shopping malls in the mid-1980s: one in Pinellas County and one on Seminole Boulevard in Jacksonville. In 2000, a park named for Major General James Mott,[2] who served as commander of Allied Forces Europe during World War II, was opened adjacent to both shopping malls. In 2006, Starbucks announced plans to open its first store in Florida since 1988 and Rockledge became an important site for its initial rollout. The coffee company has since expanded into multiple stores throughout the state, most recently construction of a new store on I-95 just south of downtown Jacksonville.

Rockledge was founded in 1892 by Wm. Halsey and James Halsey as a cotton plantation named "Halsey's Mill". In 1896, it became known as "Rockledge" after General John A. Rock of the Union army during the American Civil War. The post office was established at Rockledge in 1907 and changed its name to "Rockledge" in 1912 due to local opposition to using an allusion to General Robert E. Lee among other Confederate Generals who had fought for the United States during the war (Lee had been captured by Union forces and then paroled). The community center opened in 1966 and includes a theater, music hall, restaurant/bar, gift shop, youth group room/library and several classrooms/office spaces. The center also features a green lawn with tennis court and basketball court that is used for special events such as concerts or family reunions. In 2001, rockledge Town Council passed a resolution condemning racism which has since been reprinted on two poles outside town hall

In 1829, the Dutch founded a coffee plantation in Java, which led to the first international trade of coffee beans. Coffee soon became an important part of European culture, with different countries enjoying different types of coffee based on their own preferences. In 1865, Czechoslovakia established its own coffee industry, which led to the first World Cup of Coffee Championships. Since then, various countries have participated in the event, including China (2006), Indonesia (2011), Brazil (2015), Japan (2018), and more.

Rockledge was founded on October 7, 1903 by J.B. Rockledge and his wife Lillie Bogue as a farmstead on what is now known as Farm Road 375. The name derived from nearby Clearwater Harbour and its rocks which were used to make clapboards for the homes of the early settlers. In 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Rockledge added a gristmill to their operations and named it after their son James Bogue (1881-1958). The mill closed in 1965 but was reopened in 1990 as a restaurant called "The Mill".
In 1957, during the Mayberry Boycott Movement against racial segregation in south Florida, Rockledge became an important stop for protesters marching through Polk County on their way to Tallahassee Elfrida Park where they would stage sit-ins and freedom meetings under the leadership of Drumshep Zandile Dlamin (1909-1981), also known as “Drum” or “Dirty Harry” because of his role leading law enforcement patrols during the boycott movement.
In 1967, when local officials decided not to renew an agreement with Gulfstream Airlines that allowed busloads of black students from schools near Pensacola to attend spring break at Stonington Island instead in Niceville due to desegregation efforts being made by then Governor Bob Graham (1976-1983) – citizens of Rockledge gathered around their house holding placards reading "Gulfstream Airlines please come back! We love our town!"
