The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Royal Palm Beach, Florida began its existence on December 12, 1923. The original members of the Auxiliary were men who had volunteered to become members to help protect the people and property of Broward County. At that time, there was no Coast Guard Department located in Palm Beach County. In 1933, a group of men from Fort Lauderdale donated land for a new Coast Guard Station in Royal Palm Beach. This station was known as “Station Island” and it served as the homeport for the Coastal Artillery Regiment and the Naval Volunteer Reserve Unit stationed there from 1934 to 1942. In 1944, following World War II, the United States Congress passed an act authorizing the creation of a Coast Guard District based in Miami-Dade County. On January 1, 1945, this district became operational under Control Number CGCG-5609 with Headquarters at Port Everglades within Miami-Dade County and six stations located throughout Broward County: West Palm Beach (stationed at Clearwater), Boynton Beach (stationed at Boca Raton), Lauderhill (stationed at Lake Worth), Fort Myers (stationed at Naples), Melbourne (stationed at Jupiter) and Davie (stationed at Hollywood). On July 1, 1946 Control Number CGCG5759 was transferred to Royal Palm Beach Commandant JF Caldwell who assumed command of all coast guard activities within Broward County including those conducted by elements of other agencies such as fire fighting and law enforcement services. The first commandant also created shore leave policies which required all Volunteers working aboard vessels assigned to our detachment must take three days Leave after completing their tour or until they had completed thirty days service ashore plus one day off each month; this policy applied even if you were continuously duty listed with your unit until your discharge date! Royal Palm Beach, Florida is a small town in southern Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 29,036 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has been inhabited since the 18th century. The area now includes Royal Palm Beach and neighbouring Clearwater was first settled by African Americans during Reconstruction in the American South as an escape from poverty in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1892, two brothers founded what would become Royal Palm Beach on three acres (1 km²) of land they donated to the city of Lauderdale Lakes after purchasing it from John A. Ballinger III for $1 million. Royal Palm Beach became one of Miami's most affluent areas and attracted celebrities such as Jay Leno and Donald Trump over time. In 1933, Princess Diana of Wales visited Royal Palm Beach while she was visiting South America; her husband Prince Charles followed suit soon afterwards. In 1966, US President Lyndon Johnson hosted his wife Jackie at a beach party at Royal Palm Beach before their historic trip to Cuba . That year also saw the opening of "The Mirage", a new luxury hotel adjacent to the University Avenue property which would be home to many high-profile visitors throughout its history On 9 December 2008 local media reported that construction on a luxury condominium complex known as "The Palms" had abruptly stopped after just four days work due to financial concerns around its developer’s economy prospects; this came despite assurances from Mayor Carlos Gimenez that all parties were working together towards finding a resolution amending municipal code so that developers could proceed with their application On 20 December 2008 Mayor Gimenez announced that he had received death threats related to plans for the development which had forced him to cancel all public events planned for 10 December 2008 including a ribbon cutting ceremony for "The Palms" - these events were eventually rescheduled In March 2009 it was announced that WorkSafeMiami had opened an investigation into allegations made by workers who claimed they were mistreated while employed at "The Palms". As of late 2009 no charges have been filed against anyone yet
The Royal Palm Beach golf course was designed by P.G. Symonds and opened in 1927. The course is a par-72, with a length of 5,850 yards, and allows eighteen holes to be played. It has been ranked as one of the best courses in Florida.
