Safety Harbor is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Palm Beach–Boca Raton–Fort Pierce Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1903 by residents of Hollywood, Florida and started as a small community on the north side of the bayou that marks the border between Safety Harbor and Hollywood. In 1912 it became a town and in 1916 it became a city. The first post office in Safety Harbor opened on November 15, 1903. It remained open until 1959 when it changed its name to Hollywood. The first store in Safety Harbor was built by Elisha Cooksey and his brother-in-law Prentice Bacon. A second store was built by JF Morse in 1915 with $5,000 from WF Whitehead who had purchased land adjacent to the original store site for development into what would become Safety Harbor. By 1920 there were nine stores in Safety Harbor with an average attendance of 100 customers per day. In 1912 safety harbor incorporated as a city under the name Hollywood which lasted until 1959 then changed its name back toSafety Harbour

Safety Harbor, Florida is a town located in Palm Beach County, Florida on the Intracoastal Waterway. The town was founded in 1901 by J.C. Loyd and named after its two main thoroughfares - Harbor and Bay. In 1907, Safety Harbor became the first incorporated municipality in Palm Beach County. It continued to grow rapidly through the years with population growth rates of over 20%. By 1955, Safety Harbor had reached its current population of over 10,000 people and remains an important commercial center for the region. The town was originally built on a shoal of salt water that extended into what is now Port Clinton to provide early settlers with access to fresh water resources they would need for their crops and livestock. The townsite was also situated on high ground which made it difficult for pirate vessels to approach from the sea without being sunk or damaged. This security feature contributed greatly to Safety Harbors success as a commercial center during its early years. In 1951,Safety Harbour adopted a new name - Harbour City - based upon its location on the mouth of Harbour Cove which provides both freshwater seafood supplies and Caloosahatchee River fishing opportunities unavailable from other parts of the county at that time. The city has since grown substantially along with its population as it continues to become an important economic engine within Coastal Palm Beach County - home to many major resorts such as Atlantis Resort & Spa, Boca Raton Resort & Casino, Champions Club Golf Course & Marina, Coral Gables Marina & Supermarket etc.. Since 1967 when Bridgeport-Aurora approved plans calling for development adjacent to Causeway Boulevard across from Harbour City Park (initially known as Toole's Playground), much progress has been made in developing Safety Harbor into one of Florida’s most vibrant communities – containing more than 12 shopping centers (including several large Mall stores) including 7 mega-stores plus numerous small businesses; 4 professional sports teams (Baseball: Miami Marlins/Florida State University Sun Belt Conference affiliate; Soccer: US Men’s National team; American Women’s Professional Soccer League affiliate) including 3 Arena Football League affiliates; 5 amusement parks including 2 theme park attractions (Fiesta World Showcase/SeaWorld Orlando); 1 movie theater complex anchored by Regal Cinemas; plus 1 large sport arena + 3 smaller arenas 2500+ seat each) It should be noted that while certain aspects have changed significantly due primarily to rapid growth – such as moves away from developed waterfront areas towards higher-density developments closer to Interstate 95 – overall safety has always been among Safety Harbors top priorities

The town experienced several tragedies in the 1940s and 1950s, including a fire that destroyed much of the downtown section of Safety Harbor in 1948, and a bombing that killed 11 people in 1951. However, these events did not have any significant impact on Safety Harbor's growth or stability; rather they simply served as reminders of how important safety was for residents.
