After World War II ended, the navy withdrew from Sarasota until 1972 when it returned with a new mission- providing security for coastal communities along Florida's Atlantic coast. This lasted until 1984 when it merged with Florida's state military forces to form Defense Forces Command- today known as UFADC/. Today, naval activity is still taking place at the port but is now lessened due to budget cuts.

Sarasota, Florida is a major city in the state of Florida, located on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 223,827 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Sarasota County and one of four statewide cities in Florida. The first Europeans to visit Sarasota were Portuguese explorers in 1519 who named it "São Vicente" after their patron saint. Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León discovered and named it "Las Palmas" on October 2, 1504. In 1835, United States General James K. Polk renamed it "Sarasota". In 1922, electriciane Elouise Lorenzini began making radios here; this led to the town's name being changed to Radio City Television Tower (RCTT) on December 3rd 1928 to commemorate both her company's beginnings and its connection with broadcasting services throughout America. On September 23rd 1935,[9] RCTT became home to the world’s first live open-air radio transmission from an artificial satellite by virtue of its use of VHF frequency allocated for television receivers only then becoming available following FCC regulation passed that year limited service to certain areas within Metropolitan Stations area code 713 as part of Rural Electrification Administration (REA) effort towards nationwide electrification). Today Radio City Television Tower remains one of America’s most iconic landmarks and tourist destinations as well as a popular location for live events like concerts and sporting events such as NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four ceremonies held there since 1977 including hosting Super Bowl XLVI three times[10][11]. Morse had his mill built on a bend in the river just upstream from today's intersection where US 41 meets US 41 Business Loop/SR 1404 N (the present day site of Fort Worth Federal Boulevard). By 1893 he had laid out two towns: North Sarasota which would be centered around his mill complex while South Sarasotna would be centered around what is now downtown Sarasota. The original South town comprised predominantly African American residents while North Town was overwhelmingly white Anglo Saxon residents until about 1920 when Cuba started sending refugees into Tampa Bay during World War I.[2] At approximately this time some blacks moved back into NorthTown through secret ballot measures passed by their community leaders with majority support from black voting blocs within their homes - effectively creating an enclave known today as Pinetown because literally every block in those days had at least 4 people living there permanently or temporarily.[3][4] Only after confiscation by UFWS pursuant to 12 CFR 204 initiated by George W Bush II under Executive Order 13471 did Atlantan Indian Reservation graduate college students finally gain access northward beyond Anclote Key via EO 13485 effective January 1st 1990 – thus fulfilling longstanding dream & needs for more than decade prior! Consequently much current architecture and infrastructure dates back primarily or exclusively thereto due largely but not exclusively to efforts / investment currently underway spearheaded / coordinated by Mayor Tom Barrett thru his newly formed City Planning Commission !!

Sarasota, Florida is a city located in the Sarasota County, Florida, United States. It was founded on March 1, 1887 by Cuban refugees who had arrived in the US during the Cuban Revolution. The city has a population of over 150,000 people and is the largest municipality in Sarasota County. The area that today makes up Sarasota was first inhabited by cultures dating back to Paleo-Indian times. In 1695, Juan Ponce de León explored the area and named it La Isla de Santa Maria for Holy Mary of Saint Marks. On July 26, 1847 Governor Andrew Jackman issued a proclamation creating Pasco County from Marathon Township with its current boundaries. On November 5, 1851 Captain John Aiken of HMS Beagle landed at Port Royal on Key Biscayne Bay and reported finding an island which he called "Isla San Antonio". After disembarking his ship he Contested with Indians on this island which resulted in his death at their hands on January 17th of that year. In 1887 the town was platted as part of what would become Sarasota County. The county seat at that time was Uniontown but moved to Dunedin after briefly being held by Hillsborough County before unification within Sarasota County occurred on April 2nd of that year pursuant to an act of Congress known as "The annexation ordinance". On September 3rd 1905 Sarasota's first post office opened with mail being delivered from Uniontown through Miramar until 1925 when service was transferred to downtown via Drive #1 following completion of a new road connecting north and south parts of town. By 1960 there were over 400 businesses serving residents in downtown SarasOTA alone with more than 12 kilometers (7 miles) worth of streetscape! Today Downtown continues serve as an anchor for much economic activity while also maintaining many historic buildings including both the old City Hall and First National Bank building dating back to 1889! The growth and prosperity associated with World War II led to construction beginning immediately following war’s end and continued through the early 1960s when downtown became increasingly commercialized due largely to lackadaisical zoning changes made by then-Mayor Bob Giannini who saw no reason why Main Street could not continue functioning despite large numbers OF new businesses opening up on either side! However growth began once again to slowdown after Giannini left office in 1966 becoming nationally renowned for having “the worst mayorship ever” according to one local columnist writing about those years affairs !!! Only two years later however – upon Giannini’s return – did downtown truly take off experiencing rapid expansion across every major block making it possible now for pedestrians/ cyclists/ motorists alike even crossing STATE HIGHWAY 10 WITHOUT STOPPING !! This level or density & convenience cannot be found anywhere else anymoreLOVE THE CITY OF SARASOTA BUT WISH I KNEW WHY IT HAPPENED THAT WAY
