Satellite Beach was first settled by Germans who arrived in the early 1800s. The town was named for one of the two satellites in the orbit of Earth when it was first developed. The AIS was a group made up of military officers and civilians who analyzed intelligence reports in order to provide strategic guidance to the USAAF. The USAF started awarding medals for service in World War II in 1945. Medals were created for members of both combat forces and support units. From 1946-1947, there was no overall medal program for the USAF due to budgetary constraints. However, from 1949-1951, service members could receive either bronze or silver badges called “Badges of Honor” which would recognize special achievements such as bravery or heroism. In 1951, gold badges were introduced as recognition for meritorious achievement within the USAF or its component commands. The first AFSC (Air Forces Specialty Commission) grade A pilot was bestowed with an AFSC Commendation on Sept. 2, 1954 during Operation Thunderbolt at Hurlburt Field in Florida; this is also when AFSC numbers began being assigned directly to fighter pilots instead of their squadron commanders like they had been since World War II. Satellite Beach, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,811 as of the 2010 census. Satellite Beach is located on the west coast of Miami-Dade County and lies just south of the mouth of the Miami River. The town was first settled in 1922 by Dutch immigrants and their families. It became a separate municipality in 1961. Satellite Beach's name comes from the community's location at the edge of an overlook called "Satellite" because it offered good views of Earth from its position six miles away from land. The original homes in satellite beach were built around 1926 and 1927 by Mrs. Anna Brownell, who also operated a store there for many years before her death in 1970. In 1967, Drs. Wernher von Braun and James A Armstrong bought land adjacent to Mrs. Brownell's home for $1 million dollars to establish Cape Canaveral Air Force Station which they founded as part of NASA’s Space Race program to develop rockets and spacecraft for space exploration including launches into orbit using America’s first artificial satellite created by Von Braun and Armstrong—the United States Atlas I launch vehicle named “Eagle”—and other products used during this time period known as Project Gemini which culminated with his famous speech at Rice University calling for Americans to send humans into space within 5 years! Satellite Beach residents have always been supportive of their local government; even when their taxes increased during recent budget cuts that are impacting every segment of our county government! They have responded quickly to any changes or events affecting their town – be it hurricanes Irma or Maria last year or new development projects coming through our village board located just minutes away from town limits! Today, Satellite Beach has many businesses that provide essential services such as grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants etc., schools (two elementary/middle schools along with one high school), libraries (one public library), daycare facilities (several different types), senior living services (four lodges across three different complexes) as well as two golf courses - one off-road open only to memberships only and one municipal course available handicapped friendly . There are also numerous private residences scattered throughout much of this picturesque community - some dating back over 100 years!
