The purpose of the move was to create a new command center for the Atlantic Theater of Operations. At that time, the area was known as The Jungle.
Satellite Beach, Florida is a small town in the state of Florida. The population was 2,847 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Satellite Beach is located about 25 miles south of Jacksonville on US-1 and about 20 minutes southeast of Fort Myers on US-9B. The first people to settle in Satellite Beach were farmers who came from Georgia in the 1840s. They built white oak orchard and corn cribs around 1845. In 1885, a post office called "Satellite" was established in what is now Satellite Beach. In 1893, a sawmill and gristmill were built by Wm Mosely & Son near present day Redlands Boulevard and State Road 704. In 1899, JF Epps bought 6 acres north of the current intersection of State Road 704 and Redlands Boulevard for $500 cash. He started an agricultural store which became known as "Epps' Farm." The store stayed open until 1907 when it closed because of lack of customers (Epps died soon after). After Epps' Farm closed, several other grocers opened up in satellite beach over time including Tom's grocery (1910), Harry's grocery store (1911), Mr.'s convenience store (1912), Mrs.'s grocery store (1920), Swanson's restaurant(1924) and Northside cafe(1963). Starting around 1925 there was also a movie theater called Galaxy that screen movies outdoors on a large platform behind the water tower on State Road 704 between Cox Rd./US 1 and FM 446/SR-7C. Today there are only two businesses left operating in satellite beach - Gatorbait Rentals LLC which offers fishing trips out to Bald Eagle Lake; Andres Brothers general contracting which provides unspecified services such as home repairs etc.; however they have been losing money for many years so they may be receivers rather than owners at this point

Satellite Beach, Florida is a town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1915 by settlers from Mobile who had arrived during the American Civil War. In 1967 Satellite Beach became an unincorporated community within Pasco County and has since been governed by its own government. Satellite Beach is located on State Road 6A which connects Interstate 4 to US 41 exit 11 (Exit 5A for Tampa). Satellite Beach began as a small fishing village with only 12 residents when it gained its civil status in 1915. By 1967, it had grown to include a post office, store and several homes. In 1969, Satellite Beach annexed adjoining land from Bayport to make way for the construction of Tampa International Airport which at that time was one of America's largest airports. The annexation cleared space for an airport hangar that would eventually house both the now defunct Clearwater Flight School and today's Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport modernization project. It wasn't until 1984 that satellite beach received state funding to build its first public library which sat on what is now town square. That same year saw the opening of satellite beach's first agricultural center; an event that helpedurther develop commercial interests in town while also creating opportunities for local farmers to sell their products online and at local businesses throughout southern Duval county
