Sebastian, Florida is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Sebastian is part of the Jacksonville–St. Augustine metropolitan area. Sebastian is also home to the Stonington Marine Corps Base and Naval Station Key West. On November 4, 1851, when Spanish settlers arrived in what is now Sebastian Township in Polk County, they named it "Mendoza" after a rancho (farm) in San Miguel de Allende belonging to José Mendoza y Zandile (1763-1835). In 1865 Manuel García Ponce opened up a white man's land grant called Rancho Pensacola on what are now parts of Seabrook and Bay View Streets. It was from here that early pioneers such as Captain John Sledge landed on nearby Biscayne Bay during his 1893 expedition seeking refuge from an American war against Spain In 1892 Captain John Sledge landed and explored Sebastian Harbor on his vessel HMS Dolphin off the coast of Sebastian Sound which he named for himself and his shipmates - later known as USS Dolphin . He became well-known for this exploration and naming of harbors around the world including Key West where he officiated at its inauguration as US Customs House on December 12th 1892 Captain John Sledge visited Sebastian again in 1903 when he sailed into Sarasota Harbor with HMAS Vampire under Lieutenant Commander JF Smyth RNLI to film a documentary about naval aviation entitled "The Flying V". For many years this event was billed as "The First Flight of Aviation" In 1912 Mrs Lillian Beecher gave birth to her first child at their home just across Bayshore Boulevard from US Customs House before going into labor under very dark skies over Captains Smyth and Royal Australian Air Force officer Trafford Leigh-Mallory RAF flying boat No 515 Gulliver which had been converted from an open cockpit DH2 biplane having been built by E H Mills Ltd., Swanage On October 13th 1912 Mrs Beecher gave birth to her second son at their home between Bayshore Boulevard and Gulfstream Drive then drove back down Bayshore Boulevard to give them both baptisms at Our Lady's Catholic Church where they would remain until fatherhood ended 40 years later After three days she delivered stillborn twins who were buried next door beside her parents That evening Mrs Beecher drove all night back down Gulfstream Drive past Manatee Park through Seal Beach barriers onto Cutty Sark Marina cutting one side off so that she could be seen by Pilots operating out of nearby Treasure Island submarine base She biked all night ferrying passengers & cargo between Cutty Sark Marina & Treasure Island before finally arriving safely at Sunnyside Pier about midnight local time disembarking just before daylight for another dayOf course with two sets of twins there was always bound to be some speculation surrounding who fathered whom however most people considered Mrs Beechere's husband Daniel Macy either because paternity could not be confirmed or because he lived close by

Sebastian, Florida is a small town located in Hillsborough County, Florida. Sebastian was platted on October 15, 1868 by J.C. Beattie and H.M. Brown, who named it after Prince of Wales (later George V). The first post office in Sebastian was established on December 16, 1869. In 1926 the name of the town was changed to Sebastian-Rochester for citizens of Rochester, New York who had moved to Tampa Bay area during that time period. On February 6, 1951 the name again changed to Sebastian when the Publix grocery store was built in town and became its official namesake until it closed in 1998. The community has a history dating back to 1868 when two men from Hillsborough County named Sebastian agreed to purchase 4 acres of land east of present day Hillsborough Boulevard for $100 each and build a cabin referred to as "The Cabin." Prince William later purchased this land from these gentlemen for $1 million making it one of Tampa Bay's earliest suburbs. After being built and operated as a lumber milling village called Harmony Mills until 1898, Mrs. Anna Ahern opened her restaurant/barbershop at 501 N Main Street in 1902 which became known as "Anna's". In 1914 Mrs. Ahern sold her business to Wm Worthy who renamed it "Worthy's" which remain open today as the oldest continuously operating barber shop in Tampa Bay - serving both local residents and tourists alike since 1915! In 1926 during the Great Depression many people left their homes throughout America due to changes occurring in society; however, some people from Sebastian decided not to leave because they were proud of their community and what they had done since1868! Thisudes me back even further into my paper because before Prohibition took place many businesses like Mrs. Aherns were still open despite prohibition laws prohibiting such things! So I guess you could say that either way there are some ties between different parts of our country during times like these! Anyway back onto my topic; on February 6th 1951 Publix Grocery Store opened up shop in town making it an official part of Sebastian-Rochester! It would continue being run by family members until 1998 when it closed down due mainly to cost overruns with new stores opening up everywhere at that time! Nowadays locals enjoy going into Publix every day just for old fashioned shopping purposes without having anything else do really!! Since then other small businesses have popped up all around town such as Little Italy Catering & Dining which does catering services for weddings and other events or The Grille where you can eat dinner outside or go inside if you want something more formal? basically anything goes here including music shows etc... so check out their website if you're looking for something specific!!
