Seborg is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Daytona Beach–Melbourne, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Sebring was James Witherspoon who built a cabin on what is now Goodyear Boulevard in 1859. A post office called Sebring was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1906, Sebring incorporated as a city under the name of "Seborg". In 1920, it annexed the neighbouring towns of Altamonte Springs and Lakeland to form an even larger city with a total population of 65,000 people. During World War II, Sebring became known as "theussia" (US Forces - because American troops were quartered there) after Nazi Germany transferred its forces to Florida for the war effort. The city's largest employer during the war was Pensacola Naval Shipyard which produced warships for both America and Japan. After the war ended, much of the shipyards activity stopped due to economic reasons but some continued until 1974 when they closed completely due to environmental problems caused by years of use and neglect. It wasn't until 1984 that Pensacola reopened its Naval Shipyards including parts of old Sebring which had been abandoned for years following closure of other businesses within that area; these renovated yards continue to produce Navy vessels today as well as Marine Corps boats and helicopters (C-130 Hercules). Today many locals refer to themselves simply as "Pensacolans" or just "Pensacs". Sebring has always been home to several civic organizations important within its community: Petsmart saved Sebrings first post office from closure; Chamber choir concerts are held each year at City Hall; various fundraising events are also hosted throughout the year such as car wash drives etc.; Boys & Girls Club provides opportunities for inner-city children living below poverty lines to have access to healthy snacks/programs/friends; local police service is provided by citizens through partnerships with OC Sheriff's Office

In 1928, the first hotel in Sebring opened and served as the city's only lodging until the construction of the current Courtyard by Marriott in 2003. In 1966, Sebring became an International Airport when it was built on a site adjacent to present-day Pensacola Beach. The airport has since undergone various upgrades including a new passenger terminal building, air traffic control tower, and general aviation terminal. Today, Sebring is an important gateway for tourists visiting Florida's coastal areas as well as business travelers travelling to Jacksonville or Tallahassee.
