Sebring, Florida is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County area of south Florida. The population was 8,869 at the 2010 census. It lies on State Road 712, about 12 miles southwest of downtown Miami and 10 miles northwest of Homestead. Goodyear had purchased 160 acres near what is now called Sunrise Boulevard and built a cotton gin, steamboat landing and two stores on the site which he sellred to local farmers for goods they could bring into market place including cottonseed oil, molasses, flour and other agricultural products from Alabama down through Cuba to Key West before returning home with their produce June 1 each year when Columbus Day arrived in America on April 14th as part of the celebration known as "Fiesta de la Independencia". In 1821, when Miami COUNTY was created out of parts of Palm Beach County and Dade County, Sebrings original village charter stated that "the site thereof be divided into two lots" with each lot to contain one hundred acres (40 hectares). ThisLas Brisas section included much of today’s downtown core with only yards remaining off most streets between First Avenue and Second Avenue which were developed primarily during World War II as housing stock for American servicemen stationed at nearby Fort Myer Parkon Avenues. On November 15th 1907, after Raymond Fenton Ormandy donated land for the city development,Sebring became officially designated as “Sebring Fla.,” becoming one of America’s first municipalsities with more than 2 million residents within its borders by 1970 census figures!
