It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by George Washington Park and named for his eldest son, Captain George Washington Park. The first post office was established in 1869. The town took its name from Colonel John Sebring who donated land to the town and also served as its first Mayor. In 1915 Sebring became a city and has since grown considerably with an estimated population over 10,000 as of 2010 according to the US Census Bureau.
