Seminole, Florida was home to the Seminole Indian Tribe from 1835 until their removal in 1898. The tribe's military history begins with the creation of the Second Seminole War in 1839. The Seminoles fought against English settlers and were eventually defeated. The Second Seminole War also led to the founding of the Florida Army National Guard in 1840. The unit continued service until 1898, when it was disbanded. Today, the Florida Army National Guard is headquartered in Tallahassee. In 1865, a group of Seminoles formed a resistance movement against Spanish domination on their reservation in what is now southern Texas. They called themselves "the Creek Nation." In 1861, they organized themselves into a military force and began fighting Spanish forces along the Mexican border. After being successful at repelling Spanish attacks, they withdrew to their reservation near Tampa Bay. In 1868, they again attempted to overthrow Spanish rule but were unsuccessful. In 1870-71, they opened up trading relationships with American traders and developed alliances with American Indian tribes such as the Apache and Apalachicola Apache people. These efforts ultimately failed; by 1872 Spain had taken over most of Tampa Bay and the Creeks were forced onto reservations within Texas
Seminole is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is the seat of Seminole County government. The first people to arrive in what is now Seminole were members of the Timucua Nation. They built a village on an island near what is now downtown Seminole in 1794-95. In 1824, Captain John Smith discovered and named Seminole Island after his own tribe's chief, who had earlier been honored by Spain for leading an expedition againstigatorlos on that same island. At first, Indians only partly shared ownership of this valuable land because it lay west of Fort Worth; most Indians believed that Cuba should have been their homeland since they had long fought for control over that territory. However, with American colonization growing more aggressive and Spanish control weakening as time passed, some white men began to buy large tracts of Indian Territory east of Tampa Bay from the Cayuse Tribe in order to establish themselves as proprietors rather than comply with Spanish law which barred whites from owning any land east of Tampa Bay except for Missionaries' property west of St Augustine (thus becoming independent Hispanic settlers). Some white men also sold their interests to prominent Indian leaders such as Osceola before ceding most or all these holdings back to the Indians around 1830 when Congress repealed the Treaty Of Camp David which granted Spain sovereignty over Florida excepting the eastern boundary where Creek Nation resided In 1824 a group including James Choate and others purchased about 100 acres (40 hectares) northwest of today's downtown Sanford from Mirabeau Lamar Ivey for $1 per acre ($50 million adjusted inflation-adjusted price). This purchase signaled Choate's intent not just to erect a house but also develop this tract into what would become known as "Seminole." The town was laid out according to plans prepared by Major Timothy Pickens who surveyed much or all present day Seminole County during 1839-41 while stationed at Fort Brooke on Pensacola Beach Gulf Oil Key which he renamed Hillsborough Landing due to its proximity - it lies just northwest (onshore)of present day Hillsborough Street/Seminoles Ferry Road intersection In 1846–47 commissioners decided that Saunders was too far away so they moved him downriver but within 2 years he returned upstream along with other members Nicely & Waddell’s Creek Company who built several mills within radius including one called “Saunders” located 3 miles southwest (onshore)of present day Seminary Street/Ferry Road junction A post office operated under name “Seminoles” from 1861 until 1865 when it became “Fort Myers”due to increased mail traffic arriving via steamship connection at Fort Myers lighthouse on southern coastlines

Seminole, Florida is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Seminole is first mentioned in 1794 as "Simmonset". The name came from an exchange of goods between two forks of the Apalachicola River. Seminole was established in 1837 by Colonel John Coker and his family after they bought land from the Kissimmee Nation. They named their new community after HMS "Seminole" which had been lost off the coast of Florida during a battle against Spanish forces in 1824. The town was incorporated on December 12, 1837. The first post office opened in November 1840 and served until May 15, 1865; it was renamed to Sanford on February 9, 1865. In 1872, a sawmill was built and operated by George Witherspoon within Seminole limits for ten years before being sold to Captain John Sisson who renamed it Enterprise Saw Mill Company Ltd.. In 1906 Enterprise closed because of economic conditions and the mill became known as "The Plant" until it burned down in 1964; it reopened as Seminole Sawmill Museum Corporation later that year In 1959 A&P supermarket opened up shop adjacent to what is now Midtown Park Shopping Center with over 100 stores when shopping mall development began around that time including another A&P store which opened up next door (now JCPenney) . This added more than 2 million shoppers per year to downtown streetscape making it one of Jacksonville's most vibrant neighborhoods Until about 1992 there were no schools within city limits but then City Council approved construction of three elementary schools- White Oak Elementary School (1964), Spring Hill Elementary School (1970), andBrandon Middle/High School (1992). These buildings are now home to Lowry HighSchool students along with other businesses like Honda dealership located just east across I-95 exit 73B which also houses several restaurants like Dunkin' Donuts & Starbucks among others In 2000 Phillips 66 announced plans to build an oil refinery near town center creating jobs along with other companies that have since followed suit such as Shell Oil Co., Marathon Petroleum Corporation, BP Exploration & Production LLC., Citgo Petroleum Corp., etc.; these businesses have brought much growth and prosperity to our downtown core while supporting many local charitable organizations
The Seminole Tribe of Florida was an Indian tribe who inhabited the area now known as Seminole, Florida. The tribe was founded in 1739 by Captain James Cook, who explored and mapped the Lesser Flaherty Peninsula. They were forcibly removed from their land in 1835 by General Andrew Jackson, and arrived in Texas in 1840. They were deported back to Florida in 1845 and permanently relocated to present-day Seminole County,Florida on November 3,1865.
