In the early 1940s, South Daytona was home to one of the most important air forces in the United States. The South Daytona Air National Guard's 3rd Bombardment Wing was established in 1941 and it would serve as a mainstay of the wings during World War II. The wing was formed from remnants of the old Daytona Municipal Airport which had been closed down in 1939. With a population of only 2,000 people, it wasn't possible to operate an airport on such a small island. Instead, they built what is now known as Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on the mainland. This base would become an integral part of American military aviation during World War II. One of the first missions flown by the 3rd Bombardment Wing was a bombing mission against Germany on April 8th, 1942. This raid saw some impressive accomplishments for this wing; for example, two German bombers were destroyed and three others badly damaged by bombs dropped from altitude. During World War II, many famous pilots flew with this wing including George "Buzz" Aldrin and John Glenn who both became space astronauts after their flights with this wing! In 1945, when hostilities ended, these planes were decommissioned and placed into storage until 1951 when they were finally scrapped! However, all good things must come to an end and so too did these aircraft; they would be mothballed until 1952 when they were reactivated again and served as part of Operation Crossroads which aimed to stop plutonium production at Los Alamos National Laboratory! In 1958-1959 these planes underwent another major renovation which included new engines and other changes. They then played a key role inOperation Standardbearer which helped evacuate Americans stranded in Cuba after Fidel Castro took control there! These planes also patrolled Cuban airspace during that time! In 1960 they transferred to Tactical Air Command (TAC) where they continued flying strategic missions until 1968 when they were redesignated Fighter-Bomber Squadrons! They last served with TAC until 1987 when their last mission took place – providing aerial support for Operation Desert Storm!!

Today, NAS South Daytona is home to numerous military and civilian components including: the United States Coast Guard; Workforce Development Command; Naval Air Station Miramar; Itasca County Sheriff’s Department; State Crime Laboratory; Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters; and many more programs and activities that support our Nation’s security interests.
South Daytona is a small town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,392 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1909 by J.C. Herrington and John Latham as an agricultural community on the mainland opposite Daytona Beach on Blackwater Bayou. It grew rapidly during World War I when defense contracts were awarded to local businesses for supplying food and other supplies to military camps in the area; South Daytona's output increased tenfold from 1917 to 1945. In 1949, South Daytona incorporated as a city under the name of "Daytona". However, it reverted to its original name two years later due to pressure from residents of nearby Ormond Beach who wanted their own city name. In 1957, a referendum approved changing the name again to South Daytona after approval from then-Mayor Vern Buchanan (D). As with most councils in Florida, all resolution decisions are first voted on by the mayor before being made final or published for signature by citizens; this vote was not scheduled for that year because Mayor Buchanan had already left office prior to its date The total land area of South Daytona is , making it one of Floridas smallest cities by land size but also one of its more developed areas (the largest percentage increase in median household income over 30 years). The USAF’s origins date back to World War I when it was founded as the Officers’ Training Unit (OTU) of the Army Air Service. The unit was renamed the 1st Aero Squadron on December 16, 1918. It was activated on February 15, 1929 as a bomber squadron with Boeinganches. During World War II, 1st Aero Squadron flew more than 2,000 combat missions against Nazi Germany and its allies. In 1945, it became part of theation Strategic Air Command (SAC). On July 20, 1947 SAC activatedthe 9th Bombardment Wing at Randolph AFB located in Texas which became operational on October 17th under the command of General Curtis LeMay. From then until 1992 when Headquarters USAF disbanded all commands within SAC they were manned by wings assigned to each commander with headquarters responsible for only two groups: Bomber Command (1947-1948) and Fifth Air Force (1992-1994). Inactivated wing commanders were redesignated as Commander Support Commands or CSCs (1987-1991). In recent years there have been several requests for donations from USAF members stationed overseas. A popular request is for airmen to send money through PayPal or online donation portals like GoFundMe in order to support veterans' local communities including military installations around the world. South Daytona is a city located in Volusia County, Florida. The population was 22,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first permanent European settler in what is now South Daytona was Elias Davenport, who arrived in 1795 and named it for himself. He sold land to Henry Flagler and James Cook for $1,000 each in 1837. Flagler donated 500 acres (2 km²) of his plantation to the city on November 5, 1892 as part of the original town boundaries; it became an incorporated municipality on December 12, 1907. In 1902, Fenton Rogers built "the world's largest sugar refinery", which still stands and produces refined sugar products today under the name Rogers Sugar Refinery Inc.. In 1966-1967 South Daytona hosted one of Florida's earliest voter registration drives by then-Governor John Lindsay as part of his "Election Development Program." In 2002-2003 South Daytona was host to the first annual Bottle or Ball competition sponsored by Coca Cola Company/Red Bull Energy Drink through its sponsorship program with local non-profit organizations called "CocaCola Orlando." This event attracted over 1,500 people from throughout Orange County and all across Central Florida to compete in various categories including bottling beer (open bottle), balloon building (shotgun), baking cookies and other treats before competing for cash prizes awarded by Coca Cola/Red Bull Energy Drink. Coca Cola/Red Bull Energy Drink continues as a major sponsor today with events taking place throughout downtown during fall season as well as select summer events
South Daytona was founded in 1892 by a group of men from Charlotte, North Carolina. The town quickly grew and became known for its shopping, nightlife and beaches. In 1970, South Daytona voters approved a $10 million bond referendum to develop the area into an open-air mall. The project was completed in 1976 and helped to revive the town's economy.
