The United States Army has deployed troops in South Daytona, Florida for years. The deployment of the 1st Infantry Division in 1968 was a momentous occasion because it marked the first time that an American unit had been stationed in the area since World War II. The 1st Infantry Division is now known as The Ready Reserve and is based in Fort Meade, Maryland. In 1969, the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team was activated here and soon became known as "The Big Red One." In 1992, when Camp Lejeune reopened after being closed for five years, The Ready Reserve then mobilized to help support the camp's operations. In 2001, Camp Lejeune merged with Fort McCoy to form Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and the brigade began deploying there again. As of present day, there are several units stationed at South Daytona including Marine Corps Recruit Depot Spartanburg (MCDRSP) which houses both infantry and armor units; 5th Battalion 7th Marines headquartered at Naval Air Station Jacksonville; 3rd Battalion 5th Marines (Alaska); Aviation Squadron Three Hundred Fifty Five (AV3245), also located at NAS Jacksonville; and Headquarters Battery 9th Light Artillery Regiment (HBA9AR). South Daytona's military history goes back way before WWII when various detachments from other states were quartered here during World War I. Afterward, this area served as a training ground for local law enforcement officers until more permanent facilities were erected nearby in 1922. A detachment of United States Coast Guard personnel was also stationed here from 1923 until 1929 when they moved to Key West. One of South Daytona's most famous residents isFLAGSTAFF Sgt Maj John Fenton who fought duringWWII with Company C1/2/7 New York State National Guard at Iwo Jima where he received two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for his actions on April 18-25 1945 while serving with Company F4/5/8 US Army National Guardsmen under Lieutenant Colonel James Meeks commanding unit.#1 At least oneFlagstaff resident has served multiple terms as Mayor of Flagstaff, Arizona having held office from 1971 through 1975 & 1982 through 1984.#2 On July 20 1996 a Ustream video surfaced of someone throwing a antiwar demonstration against Operation Desert Storm outside OFB Banzai Barracks on US Military base Camp Lejeune #3 just days later over 100 people demonstrating peacefully against war & corporate greed near GASPAR CENTER signifying opposition to privatization efforts underway by Defense contractor Bechtel The history of deployments throughout southeastern FL goes back many years prior to WWII though it would be difficult to specify exactly when or how these deployments came about due to Departmental redactions or lack thereof within military histories dating back prior to that point either. Many soldiers from surrounding stateswould come down here during WWI or II depending on their service location(s) - some even staying longer than others! During WWII various detachments from other states would assemble down here before eventually moving onto key battlegrounds such as Okinawa and mainland Japan along with additional servicemen pulled FROM CONNECTICUT AND RHODE ISLAND TO SUPPORT THE GREAT WAR! It should be noted that south Daytona did not become an operational military installation until after Pearl Harbor however US forces have been presence down here ever since! Each deployment has always meant something different both militarily speaking and economically too - often resulting in improved infrastructure including new housing developments which can sometimes result in long term economic development adjacent to military installations! This paper will focus specifically on recent deployments made by The Ready Reserve who currently reside at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) located just minutes away fromsouth Daytona proper. JBMDL is homeported by 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team which is responsible for deployable forces across much of central Florida including south Daytona county itself! South Daytona County played host numerous times over the yearsto joint federal / state missions such as providing security for major events like Expo '68 or Hurricane Andrew restoration work following Irma last year - all without fail resulting in thousands upon thousands dollars worth of goods being delivered directly cargo door into our community! South Daytona is the town in Brevard County, Florida that is best known for its beaches and its history of slave trading. The area was first inhabited by the Tequesta tribe of Native Americans, who were replaced by Spanish colonists in the early 17th century. In 1795, a group of Englishmen led by Captain James K. Polk established a military post on Santa Rosa Island in what is now South Daytona Beach. The Englishman named the island after Sir John Hawkins, who had been killed during a piratical raid off Haiti two years earlier. The early 19th century saw growth in South Daytona due to its position as one of the busiest shipping points on Tampa Bay. This prosperity drove many people from the town, which only increased when sugarcane became an important crop in Florida during this time. Slavery became an important part of local life here; there were both white and black slaves working on plantations throughout most of this period. One notable slave trader here was John Brownell, who operated a plantation near present-day Dunedin until his death in 1847. Brownell was responsible for bringing over 1,000 Africans to be worked on his plantation between 1822 and 1830. After he died, his estate passed into control of his nephews and cousins, who continued to operate it until it was sold to investors in 1902. At this point, it ceased being used as a slave farm and began serving as a summer resort plying trade with Cuba and other parts of Latin America. In 1907, South Daytona became part of Brevard County when it was organized from portions of Palm Beach County. The town's rapid growth led to some problems; for example, water supplies were not always adequate or reliable enough for residents living near the ocean beach). Despite these challenges, South Daytona quickly emerged as one of Florida's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its beautiful beaches and diverse cultural experiences available within walking distance (e.g., African American slavery has left an interesting legacy here!).
