The United States military has a long and varied history in South Daytona, Fla. The area was first settled by Seminole Indians in the late 1700s and early 1800s. In 1818, General Andrew Jackson's army invaded Florida and destroyed the Seminole village of Estero. The tribe's leader, Osceola, retreated to central Florida and began rebuilding his people's society. In 1828, the United States acquired about 2,000 square miles of Floridian land from Spain for $2 million. This land included what is now South Daytona Beach. The U.S. government leased this land to its citizens for a period of 20 years with an option to purchase it at any time for $5 per acre (1/4 mile). On Aug 1, 1832, President James K Polk signed into law "An Act to Encourage Trade with Spain" which allowed American citizens to buy Spanish-owned lands in Florida without giving up their citizenship or voting rights. On Nov 3rd of that year (1832), the first Miami-Fort Pierce Railroad was built south from Fort Pierce through Indian Springs Station on what is now Collier Boulevard inWest Palm Beach County to Castleton Road in East palm Beach County near today's US 41 intersection (now called Sunrise Highway). On Dec 12th of that year (1832), Congress passed an act authorizing the Miami & Fort Pierce Railroad Company to build a line across central Florida from Miami eastward to St Augustine via Indian Springs Station on what is nowCollier Boulevard in West Palm Beach County; thence easterly along Sunrise Highway and northward along US 41 until reaching St Augustine….. At this point (Indian Springs Station) it crossed over Blackwater Creek into Spanish Town where it connected with the Havana & Mobile Railroad Company’s main line………. These were some very early days for railroad development hereabouts!

South Daytona is a city in Collier County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,562 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area. In 1892, Spanish settlers arrived in what is now South Daytona and named it "La Romana". The town first received its name from General John C. Pemberton who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant. The town was platted on December 4, 1893 by Jno. Wm. Fenton with lots measuring 1 acre each and became a municipal city on April 12, 1896 with a population of 707 residents. The growth of the citrus industry in South Daytona led to an increase in demand for labor during World War I; unemployment increased due to the war effort. To keep up with production demands during peacetime, local businesses merged or bought out their competitors to form a giant citadel of consolidation known as "the Palm Beach Combine." In 1924, two new towns were added to Collier County: Belle Glade and Dunedin. These towns were established as bedroom communities for wealthy southern white people seeking easy access to beaches and golf courses located just outside Miami county limits atolls which had been leased by Turnpike Authority trustees for this purpose without voter approval or compensation from landowners concerned about possible annexation into Miami county should such leases be terminated or turned over to other authorities without notice or agreement from property owners adjacent to Turnpike Authority lands withinCollier County boundary? In 1925, voters revoked allartery authority for these two towns setting off an almost three-year legal battle that ended when Judge James Haddon granted special status (municipal charter only) to both Belle Glade and Dunedin so they could continue operating separately as municipalities subject only to jurisdictional laws applicable thereto? On March 16th 1933 South Daytona Municipal Council passed resolution approving annexation by Clearwater into Broward County effective January 1st 1934 pursuant thereto In 1935 two more towns were added: Port Orange and Titusville which replacedDunedin/Belle Glade; Clearwater also annexed Pinellas Park then unincorporated Sarasota County on February 14th 1949 following passage of Resolution No.(No.) 49-C1 authorizing annexation thereunder On November 6th 1959 South Daytona City Council passing Resolution No.(No.) 59-A1 authorizing annexation thereunder resulting in its secession from Collier County
In the early 1800s, South Daytona was a small town on the shore of Daytona Beach. It was known for its white sand beaches and their seafood restaurants. In 1923, the town incorporated and began to grow rapidly. The population reached 100,000 by 1930 and soon there were businesses, schools, and a hospital in the town. The military presence in the area during World War II helped to spur development in South Daytona as well. The war left many jobs available in downtown South Daytona which led to more growth throughout the years. Today, South Daytona is home to several thousand people who enjoy its beachfront walks and cultural activities such as art exhibitions and music festivals.
