The Coast Guard was founded on April 15, 1915, in Daytona Beach. The first Coast Guard station was built on North Harbor Island and the first officer was appointed to be the first Chief of Patrol. In 1951, a new station was built on South Harbor Island and it became the Headquarters forthe Coast Guard District that included Daytona Beach, Ft. Pierce, Miami-Dade County, and Monroe County. On January 1st 1966, the Headquarters moved to downtown Daytona Beach where it remains to this day.
