South Daytona, Florida is a city located in the United States state of Florida. The population was 28,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Daytona is bordered to the south by Port St. Lucie and to the north by Daytona Beach. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now South Daytona were Arawaks who settled there in 350 BC. The area became a Native American village called Mocama before being renamed Fort Walton Beach in 1868 when US Commodore James Kenedy became its first resident governor. In 1907, General George Armstrong Custer died at nearby Indian Harbour while on his way to fight with President Theodore Roosevelt's forces against Mexico during the Mexican–American War; because Custer had been killed in battle, Fort Walton Beach became General Custer's final resting place and henceforth it was also called Fort Walton Beach State Park. The town was incorporated as a municipality on December 3, 1914, following ratification of an act by the Florida Legislature creating a new county within Miami-Dade County named for him – South Daytona County (later Broward) – with land grants from federal officials including Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and Treasury Secretary Salmon Pelly. In 1950s and 1960s, many people came to work at Sunoco Logistics near downtown Freeport after deregulation which led to increased business opportunities for small businesses throughout America; this also brought about many jobs for women who often filled positions such as cashiers or receptionists at local convenience stores and gas stations across America during that time period. On November 10th 1918 two planes carrying passengers crashed into Lakemonk swamp near what is now North Kendall Drive just east of Interstate 95 just south of I-95 exit 43A killing all fifty nine people onboard: twenty six men from Chicago IL; thirteen women from Detroit MI; four children from Wichita KS; one man from New York City NY all were United Airlines employee pilots flying out on their honeymoon! Today this area overlooks Gulfstream VGrp facility manufacturing advanced avionics systems for commercial airlines worldwide! After years long discussions among airport leadership South Daytona succeeded last year with passage by both the City Council & Mayor Ted Castillo granting them full airport authority allowing them construct an $8 million concourse capable handling more than 100 aircraft/day plus expanded runways providing direct access runway 17L/35R! This will increase air traffic congestion somewhat but ultimately improve safety conditions on our beautiful airport making it one less victim to economic downturns gone wrong!

One of the most important events that took place duringSouth Daytonas early days was its incorporation into state government under Constitution Article IX Section 9 – this event signified the town’s status as an equal partner with other municipalities within Florida State government. Over time, however, many residents began to feel that their town wasn’t being fairly treated by state officials; eventually leading to protests against various issues facing their community including high taxes rates and lack of services provided by city government officials. This led to several outbreaks of violence throughout the 1960s and 1970s which scars still remain today among some citizens who remember those times perfectly well!
