South Daytona coffee history dates back to at least 1888, when one of the first coffee bars in the area, The Coffee House on Flagler Avenue, began serving coffee. It wasn't until 1912 that South Daytona was granted city status and its first mayor, A.P. Hilliard, founded the Chamber of Commerce. In 1927, longtime resident Harry Heinemann opened his own grocery store and café called Heinemann's Coffee House & Cafe which continued to serve local roasts and creams until 1978. In 1984, Larry’s Place added espresso machines to its menu making it the only south Daytona restaurant with this feature. During World War II many local veterans brought their families into town for dinner at Larry’s Place before returning home to continue their war efforts. This contributed significantly to the growth of South Daytona during this time period as many residents came from Jacksonville or Pensacola looking for a quiet place to raise family while they fought abroad. In 1984 South Daytona voters approved a $25 million bond issue for projects such as widening Flagler Street between Legion Drive and Donelson Highway, improving public transportation availability in town through new buses and trains, renovation of municipal buildings including City Hall and Town Hall square (now known as The Square), new golf courses in nearby Putnam County (Avalon Hills Country Club & Parkland Golf Course) and construction of two new high schools – Stonington High School for boys (opened in 1988) and Parkside High School for girls (opened in 1990). At the same time revenue generated by land sales within the city limits were also increasing creating an ever-growing infrastructure budget which would fund future civic needs such as downtown redevelopment, water systems expansion/ Upgrade/Replace project etcetera over time culminating in City Manager position being eliminated effective July 1st 2002 after more than 20 years service followed by Mayor who continues as Executive Director under Commissioners who are current members of City Council/Mayor Pro Tempore
South Daytona is a small town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Monticello Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was settled by Germans in the early 1800s and it became a U.S. military post during World War II. South Daytona hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics and has been a popular tourist destination for trips to Daytona Beach and other nearby towns since then. W Bush son-in-law David Boren used to vacation with his family; Asbury Park - home of both Muhammad Ali and Governor Jeb Bush; as well as some homes from earlier days such as "Pineapple" Studio on High Street - now used as office space by multiple businesses including Verizon Wirelessnl In addition to its many attractions and historical sites, South Daytona also offers safe communities with excellent schools system that provide opportunities for residents to maintain their personally owned businesses while serving the needs of neighboring communities."
The history of coffee is vast and complex, but there are a few key stories that define the coffee industry. The first cup of coffee was brewed in Ethiopia in the 6th century BC. Coffee beans were brought to Europe by Arab traders in the 14th and 15th centuries, and began to be used as a beverage in English towns such as London and Paris. In 1795, Dutchman Pieter Bruegel founded the first large-scale coffee plantations in Java and Sumatra. From these plantations, Dutch merchants began shipping coffee back to Amsterdam for sale into European markets. Coffee became an important commodity crop in Southeast Asia during this time, and helped fuel growth of countries like Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Japan and China. Coffee cultivation reached its peak around 1900 with the increased production of dried beans from various parts of the world. One reason for this high level of output was the new technology of irrigation systems for growing crops on drier ground than had been possible before. With advances in transportation techniques as well as advances in processor technology (including electric typewriters), coffee became a mainstream product throughout most of North America and Europe by World War II. However, due toWorld War II demand for munitions products derived from oil resources across many nations (eighth Army troops commonly drank blackstrap molasses extracted from trees grown near military bases), espresso replaced coffee as one of the most popular drinks consumed throughout much of North America during World War II
The first coffee was brewed in a small pot on the property of Koffee Klatch in Seattle. It was called Peet's Coffee and it sold for $1 per cup. The first modern coffee machine was invented by an American named John Deere in 1875. It used a water pump and a boiler to create a hot water brew that came out of a tube connected to the house's Common sink.

In 1868, a group of men from Daytona Beach discovered oil rigs in what is now South Daytona. They named the area "The Gulf of Mexico Oil Fields" and began drilling. The first wells were productive quickly, so they decided to keep drilling. By 1875, the company had drilled twenty-six wells and was producing an average of one thousand barrels per day. In 1886, the company merged with two other companies to form International Petroleum Company (IPC). The new company drilled seventy-two more wells until it produced its first million barrels of oil in 1897. In 1916, IPC merged with Standard Oil Company (SOC) to form ExxonMobil. The merger made ExxonMobil the largest petroleum company in the world by 1920. ExxonMobil continued to produce oil until 1979 when it was acquired by Mobil Corporation.
