In 1969 Naval Air Station Billingsgate closed its doors after 54 years of serving America's maritime fleets with its two Boeing 727-200 jet airplanes and four McDonnell Douglas DC-3s. It is now home to NAS Palmdale which provides aviation services to include helicopter operations by both naval and air forces including law enforcement and firefighting; providing training opportunities for local firefighters; providing medical care tomariners; conducting research into`, improving`and maintaining`firefighting technology; provide night sky viewing for stargazers; and hosting numerous music concerts annually throughoutsummertime by popular entertainers such as John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen

South Daytona, Florida is a small town in Volusia County, Florida. The population was 2,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Daytona Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Daytona is known for its beaches and history as a center for racing. The area that now makes up South Daytona was first inhabited by the Timucua people who lived on the shores of Lake Seminole before moving to what is now Volusia County in 1835. By 1845, all of present-day Volusia County had been acquired by the United States and Indian Territory as part of the Compromise of 1850 which ended land disputes between Americans and Native Americans. The Timucua Indians were removed from their lands in 1853 and their remains are still located near Sanford on Lake Seminole. In 1865, citrus growers discovered orange trees growing wild in what is now South Daytona beachfront property. A few years later, J C White founded White’s Candies store on Flagler Street which became one of South Daytona’s earliest commercial enterprises. In 1893, white men working on an oil exploration project drilled into an old volcano under what is now downtown South Daytona and discovered natural gas reserves that would later be developed into south central Florida’s largest gas field – Anadarko Petroleum Company – today part of ExxonMobil Gulfstream Park LLC headquarters complex on Eastern Boulevard across from Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA). During World War II, many local residents served in the military including Sgt Roy Gentry who worked at PBIA after leaving his family home to serve his country during WWII; future Mayor Rick Baker also enlisted early in 1945 when he was just 17 years old. After VE Day (the end of World War II), most veterans returned home but some stayed behind to help build everyday things such as schools or run local businesses like grocery stores while others started anew such as Blackhawk Airlines which began service out of PBIA airport in 1947 before becoming Delta Air Lines today with its current head office building adjacent to PBIA airport across from Gate K inside Gate D/L gate area). South Daytona is a small town in Flagler County, Florida, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Daytona was founded in 1892 by freeze-dried goods dealers from Tampa, Florida and incorporated on February 20, 1893. The first post office in South Daytona was established on December 4, 1894. The town became an agricultural center due to its location near the Apalachicola River and its supply of frozen goods from nearby Tampa. However, over time the town's importance diminished as automobile production increased in southernFlorida and Tampa began to become a more populous city. In 1924 South Daytona lost its status as an agricultural center when it became part of Jacksonville; however, it retained its name until it was renamed for General Key West Haltom during World War II. The area that now makes up South Daytona was once home to Native Americanaboans who hunted and fished along the Apalachicola River before European settlement arrived in what is now Flagler County. Portuguese colonists arrived in 1565 and named the area Magalhães because they found oranges thereabouts; this naming opportunity might have been inspired by Captain Magellan's attempt to find India via sail through the Strait of Magellan on October 11, 1498 (the day after his ship "Discovery" sighted land off Santa Clara Island). Spanish explorers discovered fresh water rivers around what is today Pensacola Bay in 1541–42 and named them after their captains—Río de Janeiro (Brazil), Plata ( Argentina), Rio Grande do Norte ( Brazil), Chequitoa de Santo Domingo (New Granada)—making this one of the earliest documented instances of Geographic Names Committee decisions being used to name places throughout Americaexcluding Canada or Mexico! In 1672 Englishman James Cook explored both sides of Hurricane Don) which made landfall near St Petersburg on September 5th & 6th; he named these storms Renowned Land Forces or Great Southern storm watching Expedition! After Cook's visit some early residents decided that if they had seen any storm like that they should be able to call themselves something rather than simply "Hammered". So a committee came together& decided upon renaming alligator Pond into Indian Harbour which included most of what is now south Daytona Beach! This change took place despite objections from some who felt that no matter how many times you called it "Indian Harbour" people would still think you were talking about an alligator pond! After much debate local officials finally agreed & changed Indian Harbour into Indian Key late Friday nightof November 17th 1700 just prior to sunrise following days long discussion! In 1768 another Englishman James Cook sailed past Cape Canaveral Peninsula but did not name any features because he could not determine whether or not there were any islands within sight: his charts showed only open sea lanes between Cuba & Florida though he did note an island about mile wide & 1/4 mile high located northwesterly trending towards Miami Sound !!! A later surveyor named William Bligh visited this cape during hisFinal Voyage Home(1793) while exploring British East India Company territorial waters off North Carolina coast & noted houses built upon shoals east side approximating current day beach @ Captiva Point; this observation led him eventuallyto dub this cape Cape Lookout although everyone at time thoughtit should become known as “Cape Lookout” sincelookouts are typically indicated by a point above ground with a flagstaff sticking outI guess someone forgotTo tellBligh!!!!! lol Thanks For All Your Help Greetings Fromflagler County ,Fla
