Spanish colonists who moved into the area during the 18th century were also responsible for introducing sugar cane farming to South Miami and its vicinity. In 1795-97, Juan Francisco Ponce de León founded a sugar mill on what is now known as Bayfront Drive; this mill was one of the first plantations in SouthMiami and served as an important source of income for developers such as José Martínez y Saenz and Manuel González Valdés. During prohibition days in 1919-1920, criminal elements operating out of several local businesses bought or stole large quantities of opium from farmers while combatting U.S. enforcement efforts against narcotics trafficking across international borders; these criminals used kratom – an opioid content tree found mainly among Asian people living north of Asia – as a substitution for opium poppy straw because it was less detectable by law enforcement officials . Kratom production increased exponentially following Prohibition; however, due to its addictive quality and lack of medical value*, it became increasingly difficult to obtain access to safe supplies* . In order to reduce availability and consumption** , many kratom users turnedto heroin instead*** . In the 1960s, a group of businessmen started a small business called Gino's Coffee which was located on Northwest Third Avenue in SouthMiami. This business was dedicated to serving quality artisan coffee drinks with a focus on using only 100% Arabica beans. Gino's Coffee continued to serve its unique blends until it closed its doors in 1984. As artisan coffee became more popular throughout the United States,South Miami began to see a surge in popularity as well. In 2007, Artisan Coffee & Tea Company opened up shop in downtown South Miami and quickly became one of the city's most popularartisan coffee shops. This store specializes exclusively in artichoke espresso drinks and has been operating since 2007. A year later, Artsy Coffee & Tea opened up shop on Northwest First Avenue alongside Gino's Coffee within walking distance of both stores. Coffee began to be brewed as a beverage on an larger scale in the 16th century with Italian traders traveling through Arabia and Egypt bringing back coffee plants from those areas. In 1795, Dutch traders discovered Java and started trade with the spices they were buying from Indonesia. This caused a shift inulture where Sumatra became known for its coffee while Java became known for cloves, palm oil, and other goods. Coffee began to spread throughout the world and was introduced into North America by Captain John Smith during his voyage of discovery in 1588-89. From Africa to Asia, people had different ways of using and enjoying coffee which has led to its unique flavor profile today. Some of the earliest methods of brewing coffee include roasting it on an open fire or burning it on an oven (known as kopi luwak). Roasting allows the flavors present in the bean to develop more fully so it can be enjoyed fresh or after being steeped in water or milk. Other methods such as boiling water over ground beans will also produce nice cups of joe without any fuss! There is no one way to enjoy great cup of java, which is why each brewer has their own particular style which makes them unique among their peers.

That same year saw the opening of Lighthouse Park which included a playground and baseball diamond as well as several homes for officers of the local police department (later changed to Homeland Security). In 1952, following President Harry Truman's decision to giveominations based on residence rather than place of birth or parentage-SouthMiami became a town-and by 1984 it had reached its current population size of 66,574 inhabitants! The city has undergone many transformations since then; including becoming one of centralFlorida's most vibrant urban areas with an entrepreneurial spirit and thriving nightlife scene; while also hosting major world events such as World Expo 2020 and Art Basel 2019 both taking place within its boundaries! One important event which took place during this time was Hurricane Irma's destructive impact on September 5th – 11th 2017 which caused more damage than any other storm ever recorded in North America! This left severe flooding across much of south downtownMIAMI with over $200 million dollars worthOf property damage Damage alone! As part as recovery efforts throughout central Florida; New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu appointed his brother Jeffrey Landrieu Commissioner Of Public Works & Infrastructure which led directly to airport reopening on October 3rd just 2 days after Irma made landfall! As part ofMayor Mitch Landrieu’s strategy for rebuilding - he announced plans to increase public transportation options especially bus service into downtown from Biscayne Boulevard along Flagler Street connecting South Beach neighborhoods with Downtown; redevelopment projects being undertaken around Everglades National Park including new housing developments surrounding Jupiter Lake Golf Course providing access into those lands via golf carts only !! Nowadays - growth continues apace with plans underway for even more apartment complexes being developed right alongside major highways such as I-95 adjacent to Philips Arena providing easy access into town centre - making it easier than ever before for tourists and locals alike to get around without having too much hassle!!
