There is no question that the United States Air Force has been a force to be reckoned with for over 60 years. From its early days as an arm of the military to its current role in global operations, the USAF has played a significant role in American history. One of the most iconic and well-known aspects of USAF gift history is the large number of gifts given by members of Congress and other dignitaries throughout Florida during various sessions of Congress. One such episode occurred on December 6, 1949 when then-Senator Claude Pepper delivered a speech in honor of Air Force General Hoyt S. Vandenberg Jr. Pepper was one of several legislators to give presents to General Vandenberg at his home following a special dinner he had attended at The Plantation Club in St. Augustine. Additionally, Senator Estes Kefauver gave General Vandenberg a coffee pot and mug as part of his Christmas present from Kefauver in 1951. In 1953, Senator John McCain sent Air Force Colonel James Hogue a set of golf clubs as part of their Christmas gift exchange program; Hogue later became the first airman ever killed in action while serving in the USAF (in support Operation Overlord). In 1957, Congressman Eugene McCarthy visited Florida and presented Secretary OF War Robert McNamara with two sets new Boeing 720 bombers - one being built at Orlando International Airport and another being built at Daytona Beach; both planes were used for demonstrations during McCarthy's campaign for U.S. Senate against incumbent revisionist conservative Sen.(R) Barry Goldwater (who was also given an RAF Spitfire fighter jet as a gift). Finally, three years after McCarthy's death, President Lyndon Johnson received two newly built Lockheed L-5A Super Constellation jets from Major General Curtis LeMay - one being donated by LeMay himself and flown into Washington D.C., where it was displayed outside LBJ's Executive Mansion before finally departing for Dallas on April 10th 1969 aboard President Richard Nixon's presidential yacht ''Chessington''. These are just some examples highlighting how important USAF Gift History has been within our state Capitol building over time!

The Air Force gift history in St. Augustine, Florida dates back to the early days of the military in the state. The first air force unit was activated here in 1941 and it was called the Army Air Corps. The Air Force was formed on November 8, 1947 and it officially became an independent service on September 2, 1949. In 1957, the Air Force Base at St. Augustine opened and it became one of the largest USAF bases in the world. From there, our military involvement in Central America began in 1964 when Operation CONCORD II started with 10 fighter jets from RAF Fairford England. Since then we've sent more than 1,000 soldiers and Marines to Central America and South America!
St. Augustine, Florida is a small city located in Duval County, Florida on the Atlantic coast of the United States. The population was 851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name "St. Augustine" comes from Saint Augustin, who was born in what is now St. Augustine, Florida in 350 AD and died in 460 AD. In 1665, English colonists founded Fort Caroline on present-day St. Augustine Beach and named it after their leader, Admiral Sir George Anson (1588-1645). Spanish colonizers renamed it Santa Clara de Asís (or Santiago de Cuba) in 1565 for Emperor Charles V's patron saint and sent missionaries to convert the native people. The first European settlement in what is now St. Augustine happened when Spanish ships sailed intoDuval County on September 3, 1795 from Havana Bay with supplies for General James Kenedy's army fighting against British forces under Lieutenant Governor John Wilkinson during Spain's War of Independence (1794-1802). A small community had been established by early 1800s as result of white men coming ashore to harvest sea shells and sell them along the shoreline to Native American traders who used them as currency to buy goods inland from HavanaBay or trade with other parts of Caribbean nations such as Venezuela, Colombia and Jamaica for goods brought overland by teams of Indian traders called mulets or buccaneers In 1821 Captain William Rankin organized a group of thirteen speculators led by Andrew Jackson into an investment venture known as Georgia Plantation which became one of America's most successful slaveholding plantations When California became a U.S territory following Mexican independence in 1846, both St Johns River mouths were opened up for navigation leading to increased travel by Americans seeking plunder along this new route During World War II many naval barracks were built just north and east of downtown St augustine including Naval Air Station Key West and Naval Hospital Jacksonville On December 12th 1907 Mayor Griffith announced that he would not seek reelection because he felt his term had come too soon after twenty years service On January 1st 1908 City Councilors elected Abram Thomas President pro tem while councilman Wm Hatton served as Vice President

Saint Augustine, Florida was founded in 1795 by Spanish explorers as a trading post on the banks of the St. Johns River. The area that now makes up the city of Tampa became a Spanish colony in 1821 and was renamed Santa Fe de los Floridians after its founder, José Francisco de la Vega y Escobar. In 1898, following the United States purchase of Florida from Spain, Santa Fe de los Floridians became part of Jacksonville. The city proper was founded in 1907 when it was detached from Jacksonville to become an independent municipality within the state of Florida. Saint Augustine is one of two U.S.-controlled municipalities in Florida and is also home to Hillsborough County's largest courthouse and government buildings, as well as several other historical landmarks. The history of Saint Augustine began with a mission called San Salvador which operated from 1692 until 1795. This mission was known for its evangelical work among Native Americans and for baptizing converts into Christianity. After independence from Spain was achieved in 1821, Diego Hernández de Avilés, an army general under Mexican rule, established a garrison at San Augustine to protect American settlers traveling through what is now Tampa Bay on their way to trade with Mexico City under the guise of visited religious pilgrims. From this outpost grew what would become known as St. Augustine; it had no specific name but soon came to be considered "the capital" or "old town" because it had more residents than any other Spanishtown in America south of Mexico City (except for New Orleans). On December 12, 1831 Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla granted land comprising present-day St. Augustine to Francisco Eugenio Baez for use as a Jesuit college for Indian students who were then studying at Fort Decatur on Lakeland Peninsula outside Tampa Bay Hundred (later Hillsborough County) during difficult times due to gold thefts by Seminole Indians led by Captain John Muskogee (1763-1829).
