The Coast Guard Gift History in St. Cloud, Florida began with the creation of the First Coast Guard station in this town on November 4, 1919. The first gifts from the public were two small radios and a blue light machine gun. These were given to the Coast Guard by a local businessman, who was also the mayor of St. Cloud at that time. The first gift from an individual was a set of binoculars in 1935 when Capt. John A. Larkin donated them to the Coast Guard as part of a Christmas present for Captains William Smedley and Charles Coyle. In 1946, Capt. James Hickey gave two rifles to the Coast Guard as part of his Christmas present for Officers and Men. In 1967, Lt.-Cmdr., Herbert Wickenbach donated three boats (one launch, one motorboat and one fishing boat) to be used by the Coast Guard during its annual dredging operations off Grand Portage Bayou in Louisiana which were then known as Operation Neptune’s Spear. These boats are now on display at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida where they can be viewed daily during hurricane season! In 1978-1979 Captain Bob Matson gifted four lifeboats (two launches and two motorboats) to serve as Coastal Patrol Boats #1 through #4 while they awaited delivery from their builder(s). These boats currently reside at Daytona Beach Harbor Marina where they are open to the public every day during hurricane season! In 1984Captain Harry Bourgeois donated five lifejackets (three launches and three motorboats)to serve as Coastal Patrol Boats #1 through #5 while they awaited delivery from their builder(s). These boats currently reside at Miami Beach Harbor Marina where they are open to the public every day during hurricane season! In 1988Captain Forrest Ewing gave three boomerangs - each depicting a different ship or harbor - as gifts to members of both Houses of Congress within 24 hours after their passage into law! This was 1stever gift given directly by an individual member of either house!!! On July 14th 1990Lt.-Cmdr., Don Christensen presented 1st ever live fire exercise using all eleven coastal patrol boats available with full bandwidth internet connection aboard NAS Pensacola Gulf Lake!!!! This was also 1stever live fire exercise conducted using all eleven coastal patrol boats available with full bandwidth internet connection!!!!! On October 9th 1991 Master Chief Tom Fenton presented 2nd ever live fire exercise using all 11 coastal patrol boats available with full bandwidth internet connection aboard NAS Pensacola Gulf Lake!!!! This was also 2ndever live fire exercise conducted using all eleven coastal patrol boats available with full bandwidth internet connection!!!!! As we approach 21 years since our establishment as a coast guard station in St Cloud there have been numerous additions/changes made including: The addition/ relocation/ renovation/ improvementment of our command post; new equipment/ donations from individuals; construction projects; major events such as hurricanes Irma & Jose; and more!!

In 1865, the Coast Guard was created when a number of small boats were combined into one organization to help keep sailors and shipping safe during the stormy season. The Coast Guard has since grown to become one of America’s most versatile and important organizations. From its earliest days, the Coast Guard has been dedicated to safeguarding public safety by helping people protect their coastline and waters.
In 1892, St. Cloud was founded as a small town in northwest Florida. The town prospered for many years until the early 1900s when the area became part of the Jacksonville-St. Augustine Railroad and its freight railroad system. This caused economic problems for the town because it required more transportation to get goods to market than existed in nearby Jacksonville or Tallahassee. In 1909, St. Cloud's post office was moved from its original location on Water Street to what is now Main Street because of the growth of the adjacent city of Jacksonville. In 1917, local residents voted to rename their community after Saint Cloud, Finland's national hero and patron saint. The name stuck and has remained unchanged since then. The population of St Cloud increased rapidly during World War II because muchof the region was used to produce food for troops stationed in Europe and Japan. The war led to an increase in job opportunities for locals and also helped spur development within the town boundaries which continue up through today.
In 1821, the first white settlement in St. Cloud was made by Captain James Cook and his crew on the ship HM brigantine Discovery. The town was named for Lieutenant Governor of Florida William Knowles, who had landed there with a party of British soldiers in 1798. In 1827,Captain John Lawless laid out the town on a tract of land he had acquired from Muskogee Chief Manuel de Taxco. The town's first store, built by George Stephenson in 1828, became the first business to open in St. Cloud. In 1830, Drury Lane School opened as a school for boys and girls in what is now downtown St. Cloud. In 1832, Pemberton House (now known as State Capitol Building) was built as the provisional courthouse where court hearings were held until new courthouse construction could be completed at taxpayer expense. The first railroad arrived through St. Cloud in 1854 when the Grand Trunk Railway extended its line from Miami to Duluth via Saint Anthony Falls and then along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border to Minneapolis/St Paul. A mill located near today's intersection of Third Street and Washington Avenue built flour for local shipping until 1903 when it closed down due to competition from larger mills east of Minneapolis/St Paul; however, some artifacts still remain from this mill including an engine house and turpentine house which are currently on display at nearby Hennepin County Museum (formerly called Minnesota state Fairgrounds). A fire destroyed most of downtown StCloud on Christmas Day 1897; however, many buildings such as Pemberton House survived and later served as office buildings or hotels before they finally burned down in 1954 while being used as parking lot for city employees during lunchtime after being condemned by city commissioners.; however some artifacts still remain including part of building's original facade which can be found now at Americana Mall next door . On January 1st 1907 - three years after incorporation - Mayor Jock Mahon announced that "Stcloud will become one invaluable community" with plans to erect a municipally owned ice cream parlor/factory within five years should public support be satisfactory; but no real progress was made until 1912 when mayor Robert Stevenson increased municipal spending on infrastructure projects hoping to bring attention away from deficits elsewhere in the city government resulting in more money being available for economic development initiatives such as parks and libraries expansion; but little progress was made until 1925 when mayor Harry Reidy announced plans to rebuild all civic center facilities following severe damage done by Hurricane Floria; but again little progress was made until 1933 when mayor Wm Wiggins initiated plans call for refurbishment of all civic center spaces including renovation of gingerbread houses inside that year’s winter Olympics opening ceremonies; unfortunately these same efforts resulted only in temporary repairs rather than any long-term renovation Plans were reinstated intermittently up through 1955 inclusive although never fully realized due largely to budget constraints
