The military has a long and proud history in St. Cloud, Florida. The town was founded in 1824 by General James Wilkinson and is the second oldest town in Florida. The first Fort Walton Beach Regiment was organized here in 1845. In 1861, Confederate troops surrendered here after a hard fought battle against Union forces at the Battle of Gaines Mill. Military service has been integral to the fabric of St. Cloud since its inception as a small community. Units and personnel have served here from Voltaire’s Legionnaires (1828), Seminole Scouts (1898), American Volunteer Infantry (1915-1917), 9th Mountain Division (1991-1994) and 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (2007-2009). The military garrison in St. Cloud began with Battery A, 2nd Artillery Post from Jacksonville, Florida on October 24th 1911 under command of Brigadier General John Prentice Halleck who had come overland from Tennessee to take command of Army Troops quartered at Fort Snelling; he arrived at Fort Snelling on September 3rd 1910 when it became known as Camp Halleck [1]. For the first two years there were no soldiers stationed here;[2] instead Captain Denton Woolridge commanded an outpost on White Sands Lake which guarded that area between January 1st 1912 and December 31st 1913 when Headquarters Company moved into this post which consisted of a battery, three companies of artillerymen and one company of engineers followed by supply wagons August 1st 1914 through July 15th 1915 while we remained stationary at Camp Halleck until relieved by Battery K CompanyJuly 16th 1915 during World War I[3]. From then until 1917 there were also detachments detached for service with Field Army Service Commands located at New Orleans Barracks November 17th 1916 – May 25th 1919 while our headquarters detachment remained attached to Field Army Service Command until relieved by Battery E Company April 8th 1920 serving with Ninth Mountain Division during World War II[4][5]: This paper will not discuss all aspects related to military gift history such as badges/badges or medals because those can be found elsewhere online or within our library research resources. The first post office in St. Cloud was established in 1839, and the first courthouse was built in 1840. In 1860, the city of St. Cloud was renamed as Tampa after Confederate General John Bateaux who had burned down Tampa, Florida some years earlier. The City of Stcloud then merged with Hillsborough County to form Hillsborough County government on February 1, 1907. On November 2, 1920, the City of StCloud merged with neighboring Fort Pierce to become one municipality known today as Sanford. When the US Census Bureau reported population changes for both Hillsborough and Sanford Counties on March 1st 1930 they report that Fort Pierce had increased by 9% while Sanford's population increased by 21%. However it would be until 1954 when the US Census Bureau actually tabulated population change data for both counties so we can really understand how things have changed over time within these two municipalities! In 1932, Stcloud hosted its first major international fair which included exhibits from all over North America and Europe at the Exhibition Hall located on Main Street across from what is now KFC Field (now home to MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays). This event helped promote trade between those regions and led to significant growth for downtown Saint Cloud during this time period. In 1978–1979 a $10 million dollar renovation project occurred which added new sidewalks and streetlights throughout downtown as well as renovated many of the buildings including the former courthouse/municipal building on State Street which still stands today and is used as a library facility today! That same year also saw the opening of Park Place Shopping Center where several large chain stores such as Sears were opened up alongside smaller businesses such as Weis Martini’s Italian restaurant & grocery store! In 1984–1985 another $10 million dollars worth of renovations took place including new sidewalks throughout downtown along with renovation of most of local government facilities including city hall and police station! The parking lots adjacent to City Hall were converted into streetscape improvement areas serving as public places for pedestrians to gather fresh produce or browse gifts while enjoying views of downtown Saint Cloud from various angles! Finally just two years ago in 2011 another $4 million dollar renovation project took place which included adding more outdoor seating areas inside city hall along with renovating most local government facilities outside city hall! Overall it can be said that Downtown Saint Cloud has undergone an everchanging but consistent process over many years – growing pains are nothing new for this bustling community 🙂 In 1905 there were only 4 homes in Saint Cloud; however by 1920 there were over 100 homes here! Most homeowners at this point did not own their homes outright but leased them out through rental agreements or purchased them outright when they became available! As mentioned before, many people immigrated here during this time period seeking economic opportunity and stability – something that still remains true today despite recent challenges faced by our community such as high crime rates etc.? One interesting fact about earlySaintClouddowntown residents is that nearly every family member came together around shared interests like music composition or handcrafting before eventually branching out into their own unique businesses etc.? It seems strange now but back then life wasn't always easy – especially when trying to get ahead financially 😉 Many families continued living together even after their children moved away to pursue their own dreams? What an admirable trait indeed!!
