After dinner, Commodore Ketchum presented a musical recital entitled "A Night at sea" which featured some favorite Minnesota tunes! In 1893 USS Drumhead sailed into St. Cloud harbor bringing over 1,500 ladies from Boston who were attending an exposition called "World's Columbian Exposition." This event is considered another moment in naval history because it marked the first time women had been allowed onto a U S Navy vessel! At this event Admiral George Dewey also made an address!! St. Cloud is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,954 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1857 as a result of a land grant from James K. Polk to his brother, William J. Polk Sr., and other relatives of President James K. Polk's wife Lucy Woodson Knox. St Cloud became an incorporated town on December 15, 1907. St. Cloud is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human settlements in what is now St. Cloud were made by Father James Keesler in 1811 while he was pastor at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. A post office called "Keesler" was established in 1814, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1865, a group of Danish farmers named Larson laid claim to land east of present day St Cloud on which they built a log cabin and raised crops for themselves and family members until 1870 when they came into contact with American Indian scouts travelling through the area on their way to trade goods with the Seminole people who lived south of Tampa Bay. By 1872, Larson had organized a militia company and Fort Larson was born as an American military outpost guarding his new territory from possible Apache or Seminole attacks. The fort served as an important garrison until 1898 when it became part of US Naval Station Tampa under command of Commodore John Denton Woolridge during the Spanish–American War following Spain's declaration of war against America on April 8th that year after its acquisition of Cuba from Spain During World War I, St Cloud participated as one of three towns within Duval County that took part in the Battle off Cape Canaveral (October 1915). For many years afterward local residents claimed that this event actually happened near their community but no physical evidence has ever been found to support this claim. On October 15th 1915 local citizens fought off Spanish forces commanded by Admiral Isidro Gomez de la Torre while USS "Wisconsin" et al supported by planes provided air cover; both sides lost over 50 men killed with over 350 wounded including several officers aboard "Wisconsin". Although little public commemoration occurred following the battle there are occasional events commemorating those who died during that time such as annual memorial services at Fort Larson Chapel located adjacent to the original log cabin where combat operations took place In 1922 St Cloud partnered with Saint Petersburg to form what would be known as the Tri-City Water District - later renamed Florida Power & Light Company - initial groundwater resources being drawn from wells drilled north of downtown SaintCloud for use by both agencies constituting about two thirds owned outright by FPL before statehood led to increased ownership among private individuals FPL formed a subsidiary called Fla Power & Light Company Incorporated which acquired certain assets and liabilities associated with FPL parent company Duke Energy Corporation via bankruptcy auction on November 17th 2013 .
