In 1836, Captain David Wilcox organized a military expedition against Seminole Indians in what is now Tampa Bay which led to the Battle of Fort Brooke which ended with victory for Captain Wilcox and his team over the Seminoles. This event helped lead to increased settlement within present-day Tampa Bay and also inspired development within present-day SaintCloud as people began looking for land where they could build settlements with easy access to water resources and industry. With increasing trade connections between TampaBay and other parts of America, new businesses were established along waterways such as Lake Okeechobee and Lakeland Gulf Ship Canal which led to increased population growth within present-day SaintCloud during this time period. In 1841, Governor James Kapp appointed Jens Jensenetter as captain general for Canada East which gave him responsibility for all aspects of Canadian missionary activity throughout North America including Saintscloud.
