The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of gifting gifts to members of the military and their families. From cigarettes to radios, the USAF has given many unique items over the years. One of the most famous and popular gift giving events in the USAF is called The Stars And Stripes Ball. Held annually at Fort Walton Beach, Florida, this ball features air force officers, enlisted personnel, their families and friends coming together to celebrate service and share stories about how they have utilized AF services. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 17th from 9am-5pm at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. This event is open to the public and tickets are available now! In 1941, AF officers in St. Petersburg organized a football game between USAAF units stationed there and US Navy vessels USS Enterprise (CV-3) and USS Lexington (CV-4). The result was an impressive victory for both sides with 18 goals scored by both teams! The game served as a morale booster for American servicemen stationed in St. Petersburg during World War II as it demonstrated that Allied air forces could beat any navy unit afloat! In 1946, WWI veteran Major General JF Koster donated his old house on Anna Avenue near Gulf Boulevard to become home to Headquarters Squadron (HQS) 3rd Air Division (later HQAir Combat Command), which relocated from Tampa Bay in 1945 after being destroyed by fire! From here began Operation Neptune’s Spear – one of America’s largest strategic bombings campaigns against Japan – which lasted until September 1952! HQS 3rd ACD moved again on 1 October 1949 when Headquarters Area Seven was activated at FM 9007 Wendover Street “just east of downtown St Petersburg” under nearby First Lt Col Harry A Cramer Jr., commander since 1 July 1947!! HQA7 would later become Headquarters Wing/2nd Bombardment Wing (2BW) located adjacent to present day Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton across I-275 south from downtown St Pete!) On 15July 1957 Colonel John H McDonough assumed command of 2BW effective 16 July 1957 following retirement of Colonel Harry A Cramer Jr.. After serving as Commander 2BW during numerous changes in Tactical Bomber Commands including reactivating RAF Fairford Bomber Command operating out of RAF Fairford England as part of NATO bomber offensive against Germany during well known codename ‘Operation Gouda’ Colonel John H McDonough became Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force Europe retiring from command on 30September1992 having commanded all aspects USAF European Command area covering all NATO member countries save Yugoslavia where he continued until its dissolution on 27 May 1995………. After many years of dedication by commanders throughout AFB St Pete & surrounding areas local citizens banded together come 2007 & organized fundraiser called “Stars And Stripes Ball” which raised over $10K for our Troops Memorial Fund

The St. Petersburg-Clearwater Air Force Base, commonly known as the "Air Force Base in Clearwater," is a United States military installation located in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was founded on September 3, 1946 as an airfield and depot for theAAF's 7th Bombardment Wing (7 BW). The wing was re-designated 9 BW on February 1, 1951 and moved to this location on July 8 of that year. The wing became operational as part of Ninth Air Force on October 1, 1951 under command of Eighth Air Force. On January 15, 1957 the wing reactivated at Clearwater AFB as part of First Air Forces with headquarters relocated from Wright-Patterson AFB to Clearwater AFB. The wing became Third Air Division Headquarters USAF on June 12, 1959 when First Air Forces was disbanded and its mission changed to become an all-weather fighter squadron level organization within Ninth AF activated at Clearwater AFB which also included elements of Seventh AF activated at Palm Beach Gardens Airport). On November 16, 1961 Third AF activated two squadrons at RAF Brize Norton UK – No 2 Squadron RAF (No 419) and No 4 Squadron RAF (No 396) – becoming the first USAF unit to operate aircraft from another country's air base in European airspace! St. Petersburg, FL is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, its median household income was $50,583 and its per capita income was $27,689. The area that now St. Petersburg was long inhabited by the Timucua people who called it "Tampa Bay". The first white person to set foot in what is now St. Petersburg arrived in 1824 when Captn James Cook sailed through this region on his exploring voyage known as the " Endeavour ". He named this region after his native land - Saint Petersburgh or “the Fortunate Isles”-- because he had found many valuable resources there including coal and gold ore which were then being shipped back to England for export. In 1838 Captain John Troup of USS Constitution anchored off what is now downtown St Petersburg while taking possession of Florida's newest state capital and named it Fort Pierce after General Andrew Jackson's successful defense of Mexico City against Spanish forces during the American Revolution (1812). After America gained independence from Spain in 1821 and Jackson became president, he ordered construction of a navy dockyard on Pensacola Beach so that U.S ships could be brought into drydock for repairs without leaving Spanish soil. The town started to grow rapidly around this facility which served both locally and nationally as an important seaport for commerce with Asia and Europe during the late 19th century.(1) In 1907 work began on creating a new airport system in Pinellas County which would eventually become Tampa International Airport (then called Tampa Municipal Airport). With World War II looming large over southeastern US society, plans were made to build an airbase here that could handle up to 50 planes at any given time instead of just 12 as originally envisioned; however due to budget shortfalls the project never materialized.(2) However, even though development never happened at Tampa Municipal Airport – site currently occupied by Ybor City – much progress has been made elsewhere within our city over these past few decades! Downtown redevelopment has led to increased population density along with more businesses opening up; some leading companies include Siemens AG (formerly Hewlett-Packard), JBL Audio & Video Corporation (JVC), Comcast Cablevision Company LLC., BankAtlantic Financial Corporation., Macy’s Incorporated., Sears Roebuck & Co., Home Depot Incorporated., Starbucks Coffee Company LLC.– all located within walking distance or less from each other! This rapid growth has attracted major national retailers such as Macy’s Department Store Inc..(3) Even better news for locals? Most major employers also maintain operations out-side downtown– making it easy to get around without having too much trouble! What started as just a handful of small businesses today employs over 4500 people within our city limits alone! And we are only getting started!

The F-4 Phantom was gifted to Air Force pilots in 1948 for use in fighting against Communist forces in Asia. From that time on, airmen have enjoyed receiving planes as presents. In 1961, General Curtis LeMay gifted a Boeing 727 jet aircraft to Air Force Command Chief Major General Donald Ladd for his services during Operation Neptune's Spear III against North Vietnam. Since then, many different types of jets have been gifted to Air Forces personnel throughout history. These jets range from fighters like the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon to bombers such as the Boeing 747 Dreamliner and Lockheed P-2 Neptune IIs. Each gift has its own individual story that helps illustrate how service members appreciate and maintain relationships with their fellow servicemen and women.
