However, over time Army units have been re-deployed to various locations throughout Pinellas County including: Brooks Air Force Base (now Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickory), Plantation Point Naval Station (now Homestead AFB), Clearwater Naval Shipyard (now Seattle Seahawks Stadium), Eglin AFB (now Wright-Patterson AFB) and Camp Beaulieu which is located just outside of downtown St Petersburg proper on Lee Street between Constitution Avenue North and 10th Street East just east of Gulf Boulevard South

In 1795, Captain James Cook sailed into the Gulf of Mexico and discovered Fortchevostok (present-day Tampa), which he named Santa Clara de la Galleon because he thought it resembled a ship christened Santa Clara de las Casas (the sister ship to Magellan's circumnavigation). Many years later, when Russian forces occupied Florida during the American Revolution, they renamed the town after themselves-Saint Petersburg – giving rise to legends that this name originated with Russian explorer Vasilii Petrovich Belozerov who explored Flora Bay on Bank Head Island near present-day Donations Beach in 1810 before sailing upriver along Tampa Bay to Saint Pete Beach on November 26th from where he made landfall some time between October 11th - 12th 1811 Aboard HMS Beagle under Commander John Kingdon RN [1]. In 1827, St. Petersburg was founded by Anna Bogdanovich and her husband, Pavel Brukman. It was named in honor of Russia's Napoleonic Wars hero, Peter the Great. The city grew rapidly during its early years as a result of its natural resources and trade connections with Russia and the British Isles. In 1855, following the American Civil War, Tampa became the capital of Florida and St. Petersburg effectively ceased to exist as a municipal entity.
